The what's going on in Thrash thread

Gonna check this out when i get back home:headbang:

Let us know if it's worth it. I haven't got time to watch it now but if it's worth I'll download it. There is a real lack of decent Megadeth live stuff out there from fans.

If that's the way it went down it does sound like a long shot lol. But yeah, who the hell knows. I just think it's sad. Just think only a few years ago Slayer was the only band on the Big4 Tour that had all original members.

I'm 20 minutes in so far. It's about what you would expect these days, pretty good picture the sound is a bit touchy and the bass a bit loud when the camera zooms in. but you can hear all the instruments pretty good.Honestly the band doesn't sound completely warmed up yet. but they're starting to sound better as it goes.

I guess one thing we can take as truthful from bands is that touring is like a big family, and like all families they quickly learn how annoying each other can be. It's easier to walk away from a band family that aren't a real family.

It's not something I have given a lot of thought to but Slayer were original for a lot of years, I don't know how many bands can claim such things. There will be a few bands who claim they remained but weren't touring and producing but there aren't too many that come to mind who've kept the line up the same for ten or more years, especially not original line ups. I'm sure there has to be some but I can't think of that many.

There was some fan footage of a GNR show and some more of an Alice show I saw recently which was really good which proves some people can do it, but the fan footage of Ozzy's gig two weeks ago was bloody terrible. Sometimes I the risk of clicking is just too much :)

I can't think of a single band lol. Well, maybe the only band I can think of off the top of my head is Lamb Of God they've been around for a while now, more than 10 years anyway. But from back in the day? that have been active the whole time? I think Slayer wins.

I saw the Ozzy stuff, it wasn't that good.

I think Metallica has been going as they are for more than 10 years, but of course they aren't original. Motorhead went for a long time with just the three if them, but again not original. I suppose Iron Maiden kind of fit the bill but again only in part. But any that have remained for a decade or more as the original line up do appear to be thin on the ground.

From what I heard the Ozzy concerts were good shows but it appears Ozzy fans can't afford good phones :)

I think it's a big ask for any band to stay together for an extended period of touring and recording. I can't live with my family for a week let alone a bloody year!

Go hard or go home!!

Although I do stand by that statement. Living with same people, living out of bags, spending most of your time in and out of each others pockets either on a bus, in rooms, or on stage and tempers are going to come into it somewhere. Human nature dictates that we can't get along with everyone at all times. I've only done short tours and we were pretty lucky, there was disagreements but no punch ups.

Really adults are no different to school kids, some learn not to use names and some even learn not to use their fists but there are plenty that don't. So it's not surprising bands break up especially after long periods together.

Reality has to come into things occasionally. There are bands that have become better with break ups, or better yet there has been new bands created by break ups. I guess it could be argued that some of the new bands would have been created anyway or they were already there and flourished with a new name but there has been plenty of good bands come from the ashes of other classic bands.

I like that Slayer went on JF I know there is a lot of butt hurt fans (both real and pretend) who hate to see metal in any commercial area and some even make wild accusations of bands being sell outs for such appearances but fuck them if they were in a band they'd take what ever success they were offered rather than pulling their dicks over their keyboards. In saying that it wasn't Slayer's best performance but it was ok for a late night tv show.

Nope, leave me my dreams. lol. There are a couple that could still have the original line up. Overkill could but I don't think Rat Skates plays anymore. Everyone is still alive from Flotsam and Jetsam. But i like the new line up. And Tetsament, but Louie doesn't play and honestly I like the drums since he left way way better.

People don't understand the word sellout. Slayer didn't go to TV Tv went to Slayer, after years and years society has finally caught up lol.
If they changed their style just to get on TV they would be sellouts. But they aren't. They are being Slayer on TV and representing.
I'm all for any Thrash band getting on TV if they are being themselves.

But it can go both ways. If Jason Newstead hadn't left Metallica (and F&J and Voivod) he may not have given us his solo album which I really liked but apparently very few others did. Hatriot, Tenet and DDP might not have existed if Souza didn't leave Exodus. Classic line ups are good to consider but there has been some good music because they are no longer together.

I agree with the TV statement. I don't know for sure but I would reckon it was CBS (or whoever) that chased Slayer because metal is becoming more popular and feeding that popularity is not selling out. Realistically who starts a band only to spend their time playing in pubs to 50 people? I'd reckon most people start bands hoping for world domination and if that means going on JF so be it.

One of the stupidest thing I remember was in 95-ish when Sepultura toured here there was a riot out the front of the venue, cars tipped over, windows smashed, the riot squad called to disperse the crowd, it was a nightmare of a place to be. Because it happened early the gig was allowed to continue, but leading up to the gig as even the commercial radio stations got on the band wagon of metal and started advertising it the 'die hards' got angsty and claimed Seps were selling out. However the following day when the riot made the news and everyone was talking about it and metal for the wrong reasons the same die hards were boasting about the media coverage they were getting.

I didn't get that Newstead cd, I wanted to but the stuff I heard sounded like metal by numbers to me. I still will probably pick it up.
I'm not talking about they should never have left, I mean the bands that could have it again. Those albums would be safe:):headbang:

World domination!!

Just like Mad Max!!:D
Seriously. people are dumb! were you just shaking your head the whole time? lol

I liked the Newstead album and EP because of it's simplicity. His vocals took a little bit to get used to but it was as the titles suggested Heavy Metal and Metal. They wont go down as classic but I like them.

We were safely inside the venue for the Seps gig, they were one of the best bunch of guys we've ever worked with. We asked their management if they'd let the youth group in to see how a big gig was set up so they get ideas to help them set up our little gigs and the band didn't just let us in they gave 12 of us full access to the set up and the gig. It was brilliant all marred by a bunch of idiots. The band hated that their gig was being associated with such a stupid act. The next day there was a few media outlets trying to get word from the band on what they thought but once they learnt that the band hated what happened and wanted their own fans called out and caught they stopped talking about it because it was no longer "Heavy metal band starts riot"

The only going serious where they ask musos what influenced them and their top 10 has been interesting. Gene like so many had such a wide range of influences. Rush is not that surprising really but they are a band rarely heard about in this country.

That was really cool of them!

Really? Rush has been huge here for a long long time, like my whole life lol

By the way all. I was talking to someone on youtube who was at that Exodus gig and lives near there. They said the band wants to make it an annual thing, i hope they pull it off!
