The what's going on in Thrash thread

Rush is big amongst some people here but many have never heard of them. Kind of like when Metallica broke with the Black album and there was heaps of new fans that didn't even know they'd released four other albums. If Rush released a charting album tomorrow there would probably be five million people here think it was a debut album.

It's an interesting concept to rehash the original band semi regularly, I'm not sure every year is the right time frame but it would be interesting to see something like that happen.

That's so amazingly different from how it is here lol

I think it's really damn cool to have all of them like that, from different eras and line ups. I hope they can get Tempesta in for at least one. I'm not sure how busy The Cult is.

There are a lot of mainstream metalheads here. They either like the mainstream and very rarely deviate, or they are elitist wankers who claim the maintstream is for posers and they like the obscure shit but even if you combine both of them there is a massive hole in the middle they neither group listens too.

I think it's a good idea occasionally but a bad idea too often. A band could easily find themselves in a rut where they are on tour supporting a new album but people are not seeing them because they know they will come back in a few months with a 'best of' line up. The same thing could go the other way too, even if the special gigs were one off and in a different town every year. They would also have the possibility of pissing off fans that don't want to see the old line ups. From a marketing sense it wouldn't be a great idea to do it every year or even at the same interval.

Did I forget to mention it would be at the same venue? At any rate they seem pretty happy about the prospect. I'm not really sure. This might be like hallowed ground for Exodus. I think a yearly celebration could be really cool.

I still think there would be just as many people who like it as dislike it. It would go for any band, a one off they would accept but a regular event and people would start getting bored with it.

Yeah I wouldn't go and see it every year because it would be to predictable.

Not that it happens much here, especially not with overseas bands, but I wont even go and see a band twice on the same tour. Unless there is a chance of them playing two distinctly different shows I'm not paying to see them. If a band was doing a greatest hits package I'd wouldn't want to see it any more than every three or four years.

Well, Exodus doesn't really have any hits lol I'd be there for the energy. That really helps, this is more like a thrash celebration. There are bands I wouldn't see a bunch because of as you mentioned it's the same ole set. But if a band.. especially a more underground band, a living legend really was doing something cool in my home town every year and in a small place? That just sounds like fun!
As with a lot of things I'd have to take something like this on a case by case basis.

....you don't make your kids celebrate Christmas every other year do you?!! poor kids :yell::D:cool:

Christmas is a good example, its the same old people, noise, booze, stale smoke and lights, but every other year we drive 4000ks to have Christmas with the inlaws so every two years is the minimum I would accept any reformations of the same rehashed shit from a band I'm paying.

The downside I see is that a 'best of' band (for want to a better word) would nearly always be the same show, no new material, same riffs, same lyrics. People do have short attention spans these days but if one band started doing it and it worked once there would be a queue of bands realising it's cheaper and easier to do one off gigs than put the effort into big gigs.

Still can't get into that stuff. Tau Cross is a much better cross to bear :)

Nice.:headbang:

So I've listened all the way through twice now. I like it, it's good. It's good to hear Bobby G again, some of the vocals wiil take some getting used to. I wish it said who did what. That song Battle Of Bravalla? those vocals suck lol Guy didn't put anything into that Death Metal voice. Some of it reminds me of Mille and some of it reminds of one of the voices the guy from Shadows Fall uses. And cool that James Murphy produced and did a solo!
I like this album! Are you sure you want to part with it man?! I didn't know it was signed and numbered! I feel bad!

Not into that many new death metal bands but I've been a fan of Obituary since Slowly we Rot and while not every album had been great I'm still a fan.

A lot of bands are doing that anyway lol

yeah which is why I wont got too that many gigs any more. We are getting more smaller bands touring here now I'd much prefer seeing a new band I hadn't seen in a small venue than a bigger band doing a best of show.

Thanks man! I appreciate it!:D
Maybe he'll do another one, it would be the perfect thing! Ask Blitz to sing on a song..and.. magic! lol
He's got some fierce riffs on this! And the energy is definitely there!
