The what's going on in Thrash thread

I thought they were over the I'm The Man phase. Vinyl would be wasted on me now anyway as I have the original on vinyl and don't remember the last time I listened to it on vinyl, but the extra tracks just don't do much for me. If I didn't have the original I'd definitely buy it and probably only listen to the extra shit once, but I'm not doubling up just for those tracks that really aren't an interest to me.
Yeah I thought they finally knew who was buttering their bread. They are stupidly proud of that song.

Yeah different time different place, I can see why they liked it when they did it, but 35 odd years later and it just comes off as childish. To cling to it after all these years kind of asserts the idea many have that Anthrax never actually deserved to be in the Big 4 because it's miles removed from a thrash song and not really funny enough to be a comedy song.

If that song was responsible for pumping their sales up to the level of the other Big4 bands I'd say no. I'm not sure it was though...I'm also not sure it wasn't. I know as a teenager Anthrax seemed plenty popular before that song came out. If anything it hurt their sales with metal heads and I'm sure hip hop people didn't start buying up anthrax records lol.

The problem as I see it for Anthrax is that many metal heads on forums everywhere still claim the band doesn't play thrash and that they never really matured past the early 90's. Their fans are obviously loyal but unlike the other big bands they really haven't seen an increase in popularity, in fact most people claim to have totally ignored everything since POT. Even people who claim to hate Metallica have bought or listened to their later output.

Anthrax don't help themselves by not producing albums regularly and by having the same stale live set for years, but continually kicking songs like I'm The Man, insisting that Fistful Of Metal is iconic and the terrible cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, is hardly going to win them new fans. I kind of hoped Kings would really kick arse and put them back on the thrash metal map, but while it was a good album and probably their best n a long time I don't think it matched the likes of POT when many metal heads walked away from them.

Whether or not they (or anyone really) deserves to be in a group called the big 4 doesn't really matter to me, although I like the band I can see why many thrash fans don't and I can see why so often people who blindly praise them for what they do and have done get shot down in flames.

I would have to agree with that first paragraph. Except I think Worship and Kings are pretty thrashy. Just maybe not full on. They slapped a lot of melody on there too.

I also agree with the next one. And I'm very glad I haven't heard this cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath! Was that on anthems?

Oh hell I guess the third one too lol.

I think Worship has it's moments but overall it's not as good as Kings which I think is probably thrash but not to the same level as bands like Slayer, Testament, Exodus etc were thrashing. I know they are often thrown in the groove/thrash genre which does put them on a different level to Slayer, Testament, Exodus etc, but I also don't see thrash fans who gave up on them coming back because of Kings.

I believe it first appeared on the I'm The Man single, but I'm pretty sure I've also seen it as a B-side. I thought it was on Killer B's but it doesn't appear to be. It was also on the single they released last year. I had a quick look at wiki and it wasn't on Anthems but I'm sure I've heard it way too often to be only on the I'm The Man single given that I don't even know where my copy of that is any more.

Singer sounds like he's used to fronting a Punk band.

That's what it is. I couldn't put my finger on it but I think you're right. It's not that he can't sing it's that he can't sing properly :)
These guys might be someone to watch, I can't see myself rushing to buy this album but if they can do something about the singing I might buy something else they do.

Yeah if they can pull off a few changes they could have something good.

Yep a very dumb question.

And Kiko went on for a long time and somehow didn't say very much. But I'll answer it for him :). Marty is better :D:headbang:

I reckon if someone asked me a question like that in his position I'd waffle like a politician as a response too :)

I prefer listening to Angra over J-Pop :P

From Megadeth

The Metal Tour of the Year was set to start Friday, June 12. While the summer leg is postponed, we're excited to announce the Metal Stream of the Year featuring our never before seen 2016 secret show from St Vitus in Brooklyn, plus full past sets from Lamb of God, Trivium, In Flames, exclusive interviews and merch.

Tune in Friday, beginning at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST at metaltouroftheyear.com

From Flots

Seems streaming is the new normal and will be for a while. Our friends in Megadeth, Lamb of God and Trivium saw their tour cancelled and they will do a massive show stream soon. Should we stream a performance of ours as well? What do you think? #AskingTheFans

Do you ever have one of those moments where you think "why did I buy this?"
I was listening to Vicious Rumours Welcome To The Ball yesterday and I remember really liking that album when in first came out. I remember knowing most of the songs word for word and playing it regularly. But yesterday while it was on I kept thinking "why the hell do I still own this?" It's not terrible but it's not that great either.
