The what's going on in Thrash thread

That's good news. TBH Flots are one band I expected an album from, not because it was due, not because they said it was coming but because they just don't seem to sit down and bitch about things. Where so many bands are sitting down and talking about hurdles and struggles bands like Flots and Overkill just look for new ways to do what they do.

So I've listened to Life After Deth, I've listened to those dodgy real audio tracks from Rhoads and I've listened to Von Skeletor and I've got to say even when the music isn't as good as it could be Nick's drummer is stellar. That Rhoads album is a relatively typical 80's metal album, the songs a bit cheesy, the lyrics a bit cheesy and the vocals are typical 80's high pitched, but the drumming is brilliant and you can hear the power he bashes those skins with. That same trait carries into Von Skeletor, the rest of the album may not be brilliant but the drumming is powerful and hard.

Seems like a good day in metal history. 10 years since Death Angel's Relentless Retribution, 29 since Overkill's Horrorscope and 36 years since Maiden's Powerslave

TCB! :headbang:
I just hope the record company doesn't make them sit on it for seven months lol.

Yeah that would really suck. Although going by pre-covid comments I think AK and the boys were going to be about due for a new album sometimes soon anyway so hopefully the label is on board.

That is a damn good day!

I was reading recently that all Maiden covers up to Seventh Son (I think it was) had a secret/hidden image on them. I knew Somewhere In Time has all sorts of goodies like throwbacks to previous albums and messages etc but apparently there is a black cat in every cover and one of the Ep (I can't remember which now) has Mickey Mouse on it.

So did I but apart from Rigg's "logo" I didn't know there was a secret in each one. One or two of them does require a bit of imagination, but given it's a similar thing on each cover it's not that hard to imagine what Riggs was doing.

@Neptune did you manage to find a copy of Nick's album? Did you listen to Rhoads from that real audio site? What did you think of his drumming 5 years before joining Megadeth?

I wonder how Dave remembers the story.
It was later in the same year (and year after) that The Clash Of The Titans happened so I guess they at least stayed on talking terms if nothing else. Dave really must have been a prick when he was on all those drugs back then. I'm sure he still has some of those traits from the old days as a sober person but dealing with him back them must have been a fucking nightmare.

Ok so Testament was on that tour right? I thought they were. But I just finished watching Get Thrashed on amazon and they only mentioned Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax And Alice In Chains. By the way that thing was overall disappointing. It kinda goes from the glory days straight into shit like Nirvana killing everything except Pantera and then a Pantera praise session Then Nu Metal then and then thrashier stuff coming back with newer bands.
Nothing about the bands that never folded and kept putting out good albums without the benefit of airplay like Pantera.
And absolutely nothing about Flotsam And Jetsam.

I believe Testament and Suicidal were only on one part of the Clash Of The Titans tour...wiki answers all though.
Testament and ST were on the Euro leg in 90. According to Get Thrashed AIC were not supposed to be part of the US leg in 91 but Death Angel pulled out due to a bus accident. Seps were also named, but then 'kicked off' according to Max so they started the New Titans On The Block Tour which I had never heard of until reading it on Wiki. Scott Ian apparently wanted Pantera.

That constant need to blame Nirvana shits me. Ok they were a majorly successful and no doubt took some sales from metal, but it wasn't all Nirvana's fault and I think blaming them like so many do gives them credit they don't deserve.

Hardly surprising F&J don't get mentioned, they fly under so many radars.

Something else I found out recently (I don't think I knew it before) was that Scott Ian's brother played drums in Reverend with David Wayne. I knew he was briefly in Anthrax (or an early version of) but didn't know he kept playing.

Not yet but I will though.Funny story about Nick, I don’t know why I hadn’t mentioned it before I had this older friend back in the day who told me that one of his uncles was a drum teacher and said he taught Nick for a spell and that he was Nick’s left hand.
