The what's going on in Thrash thread

I've probably read/listened to all the Gene interviews. Was listening to some yesterday as a matter of fact.

I think DA is probably the only legacy band (except maybe Exodus and Megadeth) that could still really create a crushing thrash album these days. That's why I've been looking forward to their comeback for so many years. I do have to say that their most recent output, that Creeping Death cover song, is the single worst song they've ever recorded. It should've died in the studio never to see the light of day.

BTW, Gene said in 2019 interviews that they had 5-6 songs written even back then, not to mention that he had written several songs for a new album on his own when DA dissolved back in 92 (the infamous Atrocity Exhibition demo). I'm going to go ahead and call it the Chinese Democracy of thrash metal, except that CD eventually did get released. Even Watchtower eventually released new material after 15 years. It doesn't get easier to play thrash metal the longer time goes on. I guarantee if there was money on the table for it then it would already have been released. It's sad the state of the music industry these days.
I have great hopes for Megadeth. but I'd put Testament in their place for bands that could still crush. Eric just needs to get in that mood.

I'd really like to know what these deep cuts are if I'm going to pay for that stream. And I'd have a lot more incentive to buy it if I could keep the show.
So you're not going to buy the album no matter what?

Yeah, if it was cheaper and if I could keep the show ... I might buy the livestream. I mean $15 for a concert ticket is an awesome deal but for watching a YouTube video (essentially) it's a rip off IMHO.

Anthrax is a band who to me hasn't done a good song in decades, like Metallica. I tried to listen to Worship Music again the other day but to me that album was unlistenable. For All Kings was clearly better off the bat but still really, really uninspiring IMHO. I'd probably rather listen to any other new thrash band rather than these guys, which is surprising to me. I mean, I could probably name 10 thrash albums from new bands off the bat that I like more than this one.

I think the likelihood of a new great Anthrax song is the same likelihood of a new great Metallica song. I have been wrong/surprised before, like when Megadeth put out TSHF and Testament put out The Gathering. I'll freely admit I was wrong then and was very pleasantly surprised. For the rest my predictions (at least for my tastes) have been accurate. You can just tell when a band is done.

I think it's a bit harsh to throw anyone in with Metallica, but I can't completely disagree with a lot of what you say. I'm still with them though...for now...

Yeah they had songs written but they couldn't record them because the band were not in the same studio which is what works for them. Testament have said the same thing in as many words. Gene also stated that the 'carry over" songs from the 90's were unlikely to become new DA songs. In an interview when they toured Oz in 2019 he said that DA play for the fans but they write for themselves, sure it's a bummer waiting and it seems like they could have done things to appease the metal charts but it wasn't ever going to happen that way. The difference between anything DA do and Axl's GNR is that Axle kept feeding the media BS and just about every time he reported someone was playing on the album they'd refute it. DA is not constantly talking up a new album and the only time it's mentioned is by the media wannabes who can't ask decent questions in an interview.

Gene and Ron have written lyrics and some of the music, hence the 5 or 6 songs wiki refers too, but in the same timeline of interviews, which they don't quote, Gene mentions that Eric (from memory) lives several states away and can not just drop everything to be with them. He talks about how pre-covid and during lockdowns him and Ron would get together often but the others couldn't. I don't know the current state of restrictions where any of them are but Gene and his wife still control DA and are doing what they can to keep things moving, although reading between the lines the project with his wife does seem like it's more likely to see the light of day than DA in the near future.

I really want a stable internet connection that guarantees my money doesn't get me an hour of buffering :) But it's on the internet it will be a keeper if you want it
Having said that I haven't ever looked for the three Obituary live streams. I know the band is not going to make any money from any currents videos floating around YT (and you can no longer pay for it as far as I know) but I wonder if someone made them available.....hang 5 I'll be back....

....back. Of course it's available and all it needs for the Anthrax one to become available is a fan base....oh I see the problem :)

No Jnr No Megadeth...actually maybe that needs a hashtag :)
Controversy aside I do wonder how Mustaine will go after a few months on the road, killer album or not if he can't support it it's going to be hard, but not impossible, to sell another one.

I see plenty of bands that can still keep going, whether it's one album or ten I think there is still a lot of life left in old dogs. AK Corral anyone? :)

I like Seven Seconds too.
You can really tell BOTW and EOF were written in the same type of mindset. There are a few songs on this one that would fit perfectly on EOC.

Yeah definitely and I mean I hate to sound cliche but god damn AK’s voice is extremely getting better and better,He’s really stretching out !

Yeah these last two albums have seen AK on fire, he's voice is so powerful and energised lately. Many people his age are toning it down but he's one guy I can see going for a while yet.

Lol yeah that’s true, once it’s out there it’s out there. Another good point is the connection. My internet is pretty good with Netflix and prime even streaming 4K. But seems to different for things like this. It’s a crap shoot.
