The Winter Beer Report

I should add that I totally screwed up my last batch of beer. I don't think I cleaned everything as well as I should've so there's a soapy taste to it. Sux. 50 bottles down the drain.

Next batch of nut brown ale up in a week or two! and then it's time to brew a special load of tour beer for when the Swedes come to hang out with me.

i nominate this for the title of "most enduring thread"
This thread is relevant today because I am now enjoying my last bottle of Frambozen, the only Raspberry drink I've ever been able to stand (and really enjoy).

ALL HAIL THE WINTER BEER THREAD.

So when's the Spring/Summer version come out?

I have been seeing the summer beers in the store! they usually aren't my favorite, but I suppose I could drink em anyhow. For "research", y'know.

In other beer news, after a couple faulty batches of homebrew I appear to be back on track with my latest stock, bottled just yesterday. We shall see. Otherwise, belgian brewing season approaches. As in the temp stays steady enough that the fragile yeast strains can properly do their work. Yay!

can't say i've had the abita. will try it though!

I have an addition, which i couldn't get to til now:

Lakefront Brewery's Holiday Spice Lager Beer
Lakefront is from Milwaukee, so i didn't get any of this until i was in chicago this weekend. They're one of my fave breweries. And this one is totally indicative of their quality. wow, this has some flavor. Wish I'd gotten more! it says on the label "Brewed with honey, oranges, and spices." You can definitely throw this one in the Pyramid Pine tip flavored family; plus, it's got the citrus twang to it, and the honey sweetness. But it's still a lager, so it's not too horribly heavy. The Liberty Holiday one gets a bit heavy; it's darker and stuff. The nose is definitely pine-filled. Cloves, cinnamon, etc.

!

Man, this is an amazing beer.

ooooh that sounds GOOD. maybe similar to the Marin Brewing Co. winter beer?

i finally found the NEW BELGIUM PORCH SWING

and I decree that it is indeed tasty

probably my new favorite brewery, easily.

OH YES. totally. man, i wish you could order some of this lakefront holiday spice online someplace; i bet you'd dig it. tons of flavor.

and yes, most definitely- new belgium is just about my favorite brewery that i can get here in st louis. if i could get lakefront, it'd be a close match. but for the belgian brews, new belgium is amazing; and cheap considering how much traditional belgian breweries are.

TOP due to first day of Fall.

I found Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale in the store and had one last night. Oh so Clove-y. Not as good or as pumpkin-twinged as some i've had, but still good enough to satisfy the palate.

I too had some of the Buffalo Bills and thought it was okay. The first taste was really nice and full of cinnamon, but a little much towards the end of the bottle. Still, a decent way to welcome the season besides having some tasty Blackthorn cider.

also, in honor of fall, I am brewing a Hobgoblin clone:

the belgian Corsendonk clone gets bottled in a week, the goblin should be ready just in time for halloween.

i'm planning on making a pumpkin ale. was supposed to be working on a friend's record this weekend, but he seems to want to do vocals first so i guess my saturday is free for brewing! i had the hobgoblin before and will look for some here- it's damn good! good luck with the clones. i'm kind of experimental, and look forward to playing around with making up recipes.

btw: i was moving the remaining bottles of my first batch (which i shared with coworkers and they all loved it- really nice hoppy brown ale, and not sure what brands it's be comparable to) and the bottom of one 6-pack cartons FELL OUT, dropping 6 bottles to the floor. only 2 broke, but i cried a little. have like 14 bottles left, plus a fuller's size bottle.

out here we have BevMo. I've got a store like 3 blocks away which is good and bad at the same time.

All those Wychwood beers are pretty great, but kinda overpriced at times. They were on sale once for $1.79 a bottle (16.9 oz) and I was loving life.

YES! i actually read the ENTIRE Winter beer thread the other day, and you posted about them being $1.79 last yr. i'd have bought a ton of them too if i saw that price. i'll be lucky if i can even find them here.
