The Winter Beer Report

Take that!

Good job, Dope--we killed one of the longest-running live threads. Maybe somebody can post an amusing story about drinking beer at a football game and having to pee, or something, and shock it back to life.

funny you should top this as I had yet another pair of winter brews yesterday.

first was the Youngs Winter Warmer.
pleasant, average nutty brown ale. nothing too special

also had the Frambiose (sic?) cherry brew which you are supposed to drink warm like mulled wine (or glogg). it was ok, but really not my cup of tea. Too fruity. I would've preferred something more spicy, but it was better than I thought it'd be.

The Frambozen i had was good once you let it sit in a glass for a couple minutes. not room temperature, but just settling. Real deep red. This is probably my fave so far.

If it's nutty and brown, drink it down!

FINALLY the store i've been going to got some of the Anchor Christmas brew, and i tried one last night. You're right avi- definite pine flavor. The Snow Cap really didn't taste like it to me; it's much more indistinguishable- although a good hearty dark ale, with some nice spice overtones. But the Anchor is definitely up there on the tasteful factor: lots of pine-clove flavor- but for some reason i didn't feel like finishing it. I did, but i didn't really crave it as much toward the end as much as i do with others. maybe a little heavy for me. but definitely good.

You try the samuel smith holiday/winter brew that's out?
and how's that home brew going? mail me some STAT.

I'm not a huge fan of Sam Smith, so I haven't tried it. It's a stout right? The only stout I tend to drink is Guiness or Murphys.

I'm totally the same with the Anchor. One of em and I'm done. Tastes great, but not good in quantity. I had some on tap the other day and it was a bit hoppier than the bottled and I didn't care for it much. I was a lil tipsy though, so it might've affected my pallate.

As for my winter brew - it's being bottle conditioned right now and should be ready around xmass/new years. I think it might end up a touch too spicy for my tastes, but that's the recipe we used. learn for the future, I guess.
