When I mean click, I mean there is certain types of heavy metal that I just get into instantly and I dig its intensity. Most other heavy metal, I need some time to get used to it. I love a lot of early death/thrash metal I truely dig like Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Slayer, Obituary and the like. It's like as if it's programmed in me already to get into their work. Other types of metal like doom, black, metalcore etc I find interesting but it doesn't seem as intense. You know what I'm talking about right?

NO

Yeah, I do. To me was power metal (EUROPEAN style), NWOBHM and doom, Instant love

Yeh, i hear ya. I like just about every metal genre you can think of, and my favorite albums/bands reflects that, but sometimes it takes me longer to get into some more than others. Thrash, speed and just straight-up, no frills heavy metal are the ones that usually get me in almost instantly and my favorite bands/albums ALSO reflects this. But it's really just anything with strong riff presence. If it's got that, most likely, i'm gonna dig it.

I'm similar to Wicked Child. There are a few bands that instantly "hit me" but it's not a particular genre. I like prog, power, classic, thrash even some glam metal and others. I'm very picky and only like some bands from the different genres, but I don't consider one genre in general much better than another.

I have that with certain tech- and prog-metal bands. Bands like Watchtower, Sieges Even, Cea Serin, Spiral Architect, Symphony X and Psychotic Waltz. I think I forgot a few but I am sure IOfTheStorm will complete the list for me ;)

I can get into several forms of metal! But mainly I feel the urge for swedish metal, the melodoc riffs get to me. Of course I wouldn't be on here if I didn't love hard core 80's, but most of time I have a hard time with the clean vocals. There are very few power metal bands I can get into, I love the style of music but the vocals are a huge turn off. I tend to get more into bands and collect their releases rather a ceratin style.

I'm the opposite. I hear some of these newer bands and the music is killer but then the vocals kick in and ruin it.... I'm just old I guess. :)

Same with me. I take styles/genres with a grain of salt, they're just labels for people to argue over. When some one tells me about a new band I ask who they sound like not what style they play.

That makes us two. I need clean vocals, I will sell my soul for Arch Enenmy to have a decent vocalist.

I used to follow bands to death, collect all their albums. But lately so many bands I love had dissapointed me, that now I want to hear stuff always before put my money on a CD.

Same with Children Of Bodom, if they had a singer I would probably be a big fan. Oh well, we can't have everything we want. :)

You guys are missing out on a lot of really good music.
Care for a little disagreement here?

Hawk, music is something you HAVE TO ENJOY. Metal is not about hearing every single band out there and buy every single album. That's vulgar massification, I leave that for Celine Dion followers.

Metal (music) is about hear what you like and enjoy. Songs that make you feel good, energetic, joyful, ready to live one more day (even doom or goth can do that if you like it). If I'm going to get a record and get annoy every second the vocalist opens his/her mouth, is the same with people that hate keyboards in metal. You have to be comfortable with YOUR music, otherwise you are lying to yourself.

I don't like growlers, screechers, falsetttos or pukers. I need music that make me stop and shiver, not stop and smash the CD player with a sledgehammer.

Greeno and I came from the group that like clean vocals, you came from the group that either don't care or hate clean vocals (there are many out there).

And by clean vocals, I don't mean Andre Matos all the time. I love Lemmy. Ron Toyce, (whover sings in) Goddess of Desire, Joakim Broden, Paul Evo, as examples. Clean not necessarily means sweet and soft, like many believe.
To each his own

@ Greeno: CoB have a singer is called Kimberly Goss, last Sinergy album was like CoB with clean vocals (almost all) They have lost all their originality.

Hey dude

Don't flare up on me. I meant it in a good way. :)

Kimberly Goss is the girlfriend of the Singer/Guitarist from CoB Alexi Laiho. He plays in her band, and sings and plays in his own band.

It seems you don't know me too well. I *away's* say that taste is personal.

I agree with both of you guys...

Hawk- I know I'm missing out on some good MUSIC... but I also know I'm missing out on some bad VOCALS. :)

Wuvern- I just agree with you all the way around. I hate not being able to get past those types of vocals but I just can't. It's no big deal though, no one likes everything.

I disagree, that is why I really like Bodom, because they have the style of power metal but the black metal vocals. Most black metal and it's close relatives seem to sacrifice the music in order to keep the rusty vocals. Children of Bodom, Norther, & Kalmah, are a few that changed that and allowed a more talented side come out.

My lovely bird of prey (quote from?) I wasn't flaring. I was just having a friendly argument (no one here want to see me flaring, not even me). If I sound a bit apart from friendly my deepest apologies.

I just disagree with you assestment that I'm missing good music. Because to be good usually means that I have to like it (like in is good for me). Hey I don't like jazz or a lot of prog rock from the golden era. I know is great music by great musicians, but I don't enjoy it.

Goss is actually his wife, but I was teasing Greeno into the fact that the last Sinergy album sounds like CoB instead of Sinergy, IMO.
