This may sound a bit weird but...

why do people always need to relate their life to lyrics? that's how you get cheesy etc i think, by trying to relate lyrics to your life. lyrics are always an artistic way to express life i think, and i think too people should stop trying to see their life as a song. that'd spare us loads of cheesy headaches.

still, i can understand you agree with the point that some lyrics express, but people should learn to make a difference between art and real life.

Art always is an expression of real life because it is created by people. No person completely resembles another person, so artistic output always is unique. No book, no lyrics is the same because there are always different people behind it. Why do artists feel the need to write down what they have inside? Because they can share it with other persons indirectly. If you try to get into stuff by one author, you can see his development, how his thoughts have changed. Take e.g. William Blake - from an enthusiastic early Romatic writer, enthusiastic about the French Revultion, he became frustrated with the consequences of the Industrialisation and in the end he retreated into his own world, which can be seen in his prophetic writings. This is just an example of how much life affects art.

but why?
well, i said that. because in most cases i try to feel the music flowing from my loudspeakers - not 'just' to listen.

yes, danny, you're also right. it's also a kind of guidance... hmmm... or rather a kind of thing that helps to survive.

i think you must have an insight judging by this post...you probably do understand the songs too..
let's face it...not every my dying bride fan understands destiny infinty eternity do they??

:p :p :p
their lyrics are good!!!
Check them out... p.e. "If you're 555 then I'm 666" is not devilish, nor satanic or anything related with that... Heretic song is 'bout people who are trendy, without own vision and thoughts...
:p :p :p
Did I said lyrics aren't that important? :zombie:
Okay they are...
But I don't understand you, are you saying you like their music, or liking their lyrics... you must like something, not? :guh: ?

Nice one... (aaaargh), this is exactly how I feel about it!

Lyrics..
Many times i've listened and adored songs that i didn't have the slightest clue of what they were talking about, probably 'cause of the unknown language or the obsure accent of the singer... but then again the music was so breath-taking that i couldn't care less for anything more...

In general though, in my opinion the lyrics actually lead the song to the listener's heart...in a way they only "introduce" themselves, and somewhere there the journey begins... everyone "accepts" the songs in a totally different way, based on their own personal experiences, their thoughts, their hopes, their state of mind..
Sth similar happened to me several times... i've been listening to specific songs for years, and someday, at a certain moment, i actually understood their exact meaning...dunno how or why that happened, guess it had to do with the journey i mentioned before... at that time, i just accompanied the "writer", and then he and i travelled together for a while, torwards the same destination...

But sometimes it's so weird indeed... you listen or read the lyrics of a song and you think it's impossible for someone else to be able to describe so precisely your own feelings, it's like he's inside you, able to see whatever you see, to think whatever you think, to feel whatever you feel... it's scaring isn't it...?

Lyrics...

I don't feel that scary, but just great..you know, I've this problem to say/write down my feelings by words, and its great if there's someone who could..!

I can relate to my favourite songwriters because they sing about real life and things that affect me personally. I dont really see that as art, but what is art? Ive forgot:confused: Is speaking your mind in songs art? Or is poetry about forests that doesnt really mean much art?
Has anyone here ever flipped and had panic attacks and that?

Are you sure about that!?? I absolutely love Rapture, but it's hard to imagine that singer singing Finntroll songs!

Well yeah, if I don't remember wrong. Since I know the guy his interview in some magazine got my attention and I think he was supposed to do even a tour of some kind with 'em, but it got cancelled. And there are two singers in Rapture now, right? This is the one doing mostly cleanvocals, I guess (haven't listened to that stuff yet...)

Just can't go out of me door sometimes, face all the strange people, jump in a tram and feel those fuckers staring and laughing at me, can't look anyone in the eyes and I'm trying to incite me mind to an anger just to stand it all and not jump off at the next stop and run so fuckin far. For example.
