I need some recommendations for decent thrash metal. I'm already well acquainted with Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, Dark Angel, Slayer, Exhorder, Sepultura, Coroner, Watchtower and a few others that have slipped my mind. Any recommendations for death/thrash similar to Massacra are also welcome.

Toxic Holocaust & Dekapitator are both good, straightforward thrash with harsh vocals, with TH having a touch of BM here and there. Hypnosia is vicious death/thrash, and as VVVV mentioned, Sadus just simply rule – some of the most talented musicians ever to play thrash metal. Assassin and Artillery are German thrash along the lines of Destruction and Coroner.

As for thrash closer to the standard American mode, Heathen (whose albums can be downloaded at www.heathenmetal.com) are the kings of melodic speed/thrash, and Ulysses Siren are the best thrash band nobody's ever heard of. Technical Bay Area thrash with 36345798476 time changes per song and ridiculous, cyborg lead guitar. Bow before them.

OH SHITE NIGGA! I forgot Necrodeath. Italy's best-kept secret, an obscenely vicious death-thrash band loaded with tons upon tons of brutality, evil atmosphere, and of course riffs and more riffs. MUST HEAR.

I will make specific recommendations, and then post a massive list for reference.

Holy Terror is a little-known Bay Area Thrash band, whose vocals I find to be absolutely awesome. Overkill is a well-known band that, despite their widespread notoriety, tend to be easily overlooked. Do not make this mistake. Very easily the best NY Trash band, not to mention the first. Devastator is a brand new Black/Thrash band out of Florida, a very nice blend of the two genres. Protector is a seemingly little-known German Thrash band who should be bigger. Vio-Lence, particularly with their debut album, provide some of the most relentless barrages of riffs of all time. They're well worth checking out despite the vocalist, which is certainly an acquired taste. Flotsam And Jetsam, especially their first two, are also highly noteworthy. Incinerator is similar to Hypnosia. Razor is a vicious Canadian Thrash Metal band that never got the attention they deserved. Also, a kickass Thrash band from my home state, Whiplash. Their first two are Thrash classics.

FUCK, I forgot Torture Squad. TOTAL FUCKING OWNAGE. Brazilian death-thrash that rapes your mother with brutality. Download here.

Also! Holy Moses, a German thrash band with a chick singer who was doing brutal vocals before Angela Gossow had sucked her first cock. (Well, you never know.) Vicious hyperspeed riffing.

Oh yeah, and the ones in bold are the more significant or better releases. And Pyrus you dumbfuck, you know better than to call Artillery German!

Damn everything is already mentioned now. Hmmphh.

Where deathrash is concerned, check out early material of Malevolent Creation, Solstice, Dead Head, Comecon, Loudblast, Thanatos, etc.

Also check out Ghoul, Frightmare, not exxxactly 100% thrash, but very enjoyable nevertheless.

Check out Lethal; Erik and Sorath's thrash metal band. Although I'm not a huge fan of the genre, I find myself really enjoying their work. Check their sigs (I think?) or the Royal Carnage forum for more info. You can even download their entire demo and a killer liveset from their website.

You might also want to check out Dew-Scented, German death/thrash.

Thanks, though the entire demo is not available for download anymore -- there are two tracks available from Witches Brew though. I've recently mastered four of the songs that will appear on a 7" to be out on WBR soon. http://nw.ath.cx/~erik/lethal/ -- http://www.witches-brew.org/

Anyway, I second Sabbat "History of a Time to Come". Fucking STELLAR, intense thrash, with very clever lyrics.

Half of the songs on "Forbidden Evil" are SO fucking great and make me want to bang my head against the stage as if up from the dead, unfortunately the other half make me cringe, go WTF and reach for the skip button. A shame, really. I should pick up "Twisted into Form" as I hear it is more consistent.

It is more consistent, but not as good as the good songs off of Forbidden Evil. Overall, I would still take the first one.
