I hate to say this on a thread but maybe I can get some feedback as to what I'm doing wrong. My initial impression of the Titan Quest was positive. Great graphics, but I cannot kill that first boss in the farmland. No matter what I do, no matter what weapon I have, or level I am raised to. I cannot kill it. I have tried everything for hours. At this point I am so disgusted with this game that I have resumed my Diablo 2 campaign with my character. Am I doing something wrong? I can't find any money to buy better armor and weapons and have exhausted all potions. Help!

weird, I never had any trouble killing that boss. what weapons and mastery are you using? and are you remembering to pick up items dropped by monsters? this early in the game, that's really the only way to get better stuff... collect everything (even the broken stuff), sell it, and buy something -- anything -- you can equip.

Yeah, that's indeed strange... you have tried to pick up other weapons, right? IIRC, the torch was the best weapon that early in the game as far as damage-dealing goes (for a melee character) and there should be plenty of those dropped by the time you get to the "boss." Not all weapons are created equal... make sure to pick up everything that early on - some knives, torches, bows, clubs, etc., are better than others as are pieces of armor. Sell all your unwanted stuff at the vendor in that village and try to buy something better. You should be able to find a crappy bow and equip that in your second weapon slot and maybe try plinking him from afar (hold the shift key down to keep from moving, point the pointer on the boss, and just keep your left mouse button held down until he's dead.) Oh, and this should be obvious, but kill the minions around him first

I think it's just a matter of getting used to the game... don't give up on it just yet, young padawan. :)

That boss throws fireballs. I'd recommend using the shoot-and-move method (shoot once, move a few steps away to avoid the return projectile, shoot again, and repeat). Staying in one place is a good way to get killed, especially with the lack of armor that's available that soon in the game.

If nothing else, go up a few levels, to where you can equip a crappy staff. All staffs shoot fire, ice, or lightning, and they do decent damage. Honestly though, I can't understand how you can have trouble killing that boss after going up several levels -- especially being a Diablo II alumnus. You are remembering to pick a mastery, right? And you're assigning skill points and then using your abilities? If nothing else, pick Earth mastery, put a few points into fireballs, and fight fire with fire; that should make quick work of the boss. :)

Ok, I downloaded the demo last night and played it for about an hour... it's been a while since I played DII or Dungeon Siege, but Titan Quest reminds me more of Dungeon Siege thus far. I sure do wish they'd come out with a new Diablo game. In the meantime, I've been stuck on Civilization, after a lengthy addiction to Morrowind and then Oblivion. Sean, if you've never seen either of those two games, you should give them a try. Quite different, but IMO much more... i dunno... rich and deep. Very fun but very addicting as well. You can only play single player though--no multi option.

You know I tried Morrowind and Oblivion and as much as I appreciate the play mechanics and depth I couldn't get into them that much. I guess it just wasn't my cup of tea. But Diablo and Diablo 2 on the other hand are just ridiculously addicting to me. Titan Quest is getting there. I finally took all the advice and got past that Shaman sumnabiatch and the game is much harder than Diablo 2. But you are right Shaye, it is a great combo of Diablo and Dungeon Siege.

P.S. When are you gonna call? PM me.

What they said above. You have to make sure to grab items that are left behind as you kill monsters. Equip more powerful items as you are able, they make a big difference. For Bosses that are shooting stuff at you, try to find a nice bow and arrow and shoot/move - or equip a spell to your right mouse button (or healing potion) as well.

I need to finish this game still, haven't played in like a year!
