While we're at it, why not... :p

1. Virgil Donati
2. Mike Portnoy
3. Asgeir Mickelson
4. Bobby Jarzombek
5. Steve Smith
6. Jason Rullo
7. Dave Weckl
8. Grant Collins
9. Martin Lopez (damn I wish he was still in Opeth... :erk: )
10. Jeremy Colson

If people are putting Danny Carey on their top 10's then why the fuck not Portnoy?

Portnoy is a good drummer, but sorry that's all. He's of course among the 10 in prog metal. But if we include drummers like Weckl, Donati, Bozzio etc, the situation changes.

I'm not into Tool very much, and i can not comment on Carrey's inclusion. but as i know, he has some special polyrhythmic creations on drums.

IMO, Portnoy is the best. And not only for his work with Dream Theater.

Edit: Also a big fan of Jan Axel Blomberg, AKA Hellhammer.

i do like portnoy, and there's no doubt he has extreme talent. but sometimes, in my opinion, he just overdoes it. he's like the pretentious shakespeare know-it-all/quote-him-all person in english class...but in drummer form.

Hey, when it comes to extreme drummers, no one is mightier than Nicholas Barker. Of course they're all good; Hellhammer, Frost, Trym, Roddy, Flo Mournier etc. But none of them is as tight as Nicholas Barker. Despite his kilos, he is very fast, precise and tight in his druming. Besides he is very creative, especially in his Cradle Of Filth times...

This link shows his preciseness, for example :) YouTube - Lock Up - Violent Reprisal

For what it's worth, I think Portnoy should be included among the likes of Donati and Bozzio, cos he's done so much work outside of DT, (his work in LTE is unbelievable) and Danny Carey should not. Cos Tool are Nu-metal and I don't like them... (*pout*)
