ITT you will post two separate lists (or at least that is the goal), one for your top 10 Heavy Metal bands (and this term can be considered loosely to include "US Power Metal" bands such as Omen, Liege Lord, etc., and other bands of that nature, though it's preferable not to extend the term too far to the point of including bands like Blind Guardian or Agent Steel). The other list is exclusively reserved for bands coming out of the NWOBHM movement in England. I separate it from the pack because I believe that there was a substantial enough mass of bands coming from this era to merit an entire list on its own. It's preferable to separate the two categories so that the usual list is not dominated by NWOBHM bands, but if you don't know a whole lot to begin with, you might as well make one list.

For the record: Judas Priest is NOT NWOBHM. Black Sabbath is NOT NWOBHM. Iron Maiden IS NWOBHM. Venom IS NWOBHM. My list, however, will exclude Sabbath and Priest and will stick to one album per band.

Heavy Metal:

Manilla Road - some album between Crystal Logic and Mystification...too hard to pick
Cirith Ungol - King Of The Dead
Omen - Battle Cry
Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Attacker - Battle At Helm's Deep
Manowar - Hail To England
Griffin - Flight Of The Griffin
Brocas Helm - Defender Of The Crown
Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian

NWOBHM:

Angel Witch - Angel Witch
Diamond Head - Lightning To The Nations
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Blitzkrieg - A Time Of Changes
Satan - Court In The Act
Legend - Death In The Nursery
Venom - Black Metal
Pagan Altar - Volume 1
Jaguar - Power Games
Cloven Hoof - Cloven Hoof

Heavy Metal:
Manowar - Sign of the Hammer
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
Manilla Road - Open the Gates
Virgin Steele - Guardian of the Flame
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath
Omen - Battle Cry
The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Traveller
Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction
Fates Warning - The Spectre Within
Armored Saint - March of the Saint

Hmm, maybe some of the choices are too power metal? I still haven't gotten around listening to either Attacker or Brocas Helm which is a shame. Also wanted to Include Doomsword but not sure if it qualify, though I includes Slough Feg who are as new as them. :p

Edit: why the fuck did I not include Fates Warning? Changed now!

NWOBHM:
Pagan Altar - Volume 1
Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
Witchfinder General - Death Penalty
Cloven Hoof - Cloven Hoof
Angel Witch - Angel Witch
Venom - Black Metal
Desolation Angels - Desolation Angels
Tokyo Blade - Night of the Blade
Saxon - Crusader
Satan - Court in the Act

Ok that was hard, I haven't heard super mega much NWOBHM, pretty much listed one album of each band I have heard. xd

Heavy Metal (I realize that some might have different ideas as to what "Heavy Metal" is)
1. Cirith Ungol-Frost And Fire
2. Slough Feg-Down Among The Dead Men
3. Hammers of Misfortune-The Locust Years
4. Manilla Road-Crystal Logic
5. Mercyful Fate-Don't Break The Oath
6. Solstice-New Dark Age
7. Witch Cross-Fit For Fight
8. OZ-Fire In The Brain
9. Gastunk-Under The Sun
10. Overdrive-Swords and Axes

NWOBHM (only 7, my knowledge is limited)
1. Iron Maiden-Killers
2. Quartz-Stand Up and Fight
3. Venom-Welcome To Hell
4. Hell-Save Us From Those..
5. Witchfinder General-Friends of Hell
6. Diamond Head-Lightning To The Nations
7. Pagan Altar-Volume 1

Heavy Metal

Manilla Road - The Deluge
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
Brocas Helm - Into Battle
Upwards of Endtime - Sadly Never Fore
Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction
Helstar - Burning Star
Mercyful fate - Melissa
Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
Tyrant - Legions of the Dead
Pentagram - First Daze Here (I realise this is a compilation and has hard rock and doom elements, but for my mind, it contains more "heavy metal" than other genres.)

NWOBHM

yeah, only seven for me too.

Angel Witch - Angel Witch
Iron Maiden - Killers
Saxon - Saxon
Venom - Welcome to Hell
Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
Witchfinder General - Death Penalty
Pagan Altar - Volume 1

Heavy Metal
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Motorhead - Bomber
Judas Priest - British Steel
Manowar - Kings Of Metal
Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break The Oath
and at this point I'm gonna have to start listing multiple things by the same band - don't listen to much "pure" metal

NWOBHM
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Samson - Head On
Venom - Black Metal
all I got...

Both Judas Priest and Motorhead pre-date the NWOBHM. NWOBHM is not a particular sound (though one can argue that there is a certain 'British' aura to the bands), but rather a historical movement, which is generally categorized as beginning in 1979, and is largely influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Motorhead. So the aforementioned bands are obviously not part of the NWOBHM.

Oh well, what the fuck...

Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Motorhead - Bomber
Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
Angel Witch - Angel Witch
Saxon - Denim and Leather
Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Oz
Def Leppard - Pyromania
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Rainbow - Rainbow Rising

(a bit of a hodge-podge, and some may argue Lizzy and Rainbow aren't strictly metal on these releases - but as 70's semi-proto metal I think they should stand - particularly for the inclusion of the epic "Emerald" and "Stargazer" tracks.)

Heavy Metal:

Judas Priest Sad Wings of Destiny
Fates Warning Awaken the Guardian
Nasty Savage Nasty Savage
Mercyful Fate Don't Break the Oath
Sanctuary Into the Mirror Black
Candlemass Nightfall
Jag Panzer Ample Destruction
Manowar Hail to England
Legend From the Fjords
Helstar Nosferatu

NWOBHM:

Pagan Altar Volume 1
Angelwitch Angel Witch
Grim Reaper See You in Hell
Holocaust The Nightcomers
Witchfinder General Death Penalty
Witchfinder General Friends of Hell
Iron Maiden Killers
Samson Shock Tactics
Venom At War With Satan
Saxon Strong Arm of the Law

Maltese Falcon - Metal Rush
Vault - No More Escape
Devil Childe - Devil Childe
Bloody Six - In the Name Of Blood
Slauter Xstroyes - Winter Kill
Blacksmith - Fire From Within

How could you include Motörhead when they're not even metal? ;)

And I wouldn't include Venom in the NWOBHM list because they're so vastly different from all those other bands.
