Top metal colleges

Well in normal (non-internet) colleges you can take a couple classes before having to decide your major. Also the OP never said he wanted to study music specifically, just that he wanted to go to college where there is a decent local metal scene.

I'll pimp Dutchess County NY as an ok metal area. Colleges in that area are CIA (Culinary Institute of America), Marist, Vassar, SUNY New Paltz. It's near enough NYC where you can go there for music, and lots of decent bands stop in Poughkeepsie at The Chance Theater, a good venue. I went to Vassar and some friends and I started up VCPunx which tries to attract metal, hardcore, and punk bands to come to campus. There are several decent shows a year. Obviously since they were students Genghis Tron played a lot of shows on campus, and we also had An Albatross and Behold...The Arctopus.

Would help if we knew what you're into. For example, Boston has a big metalcore/hardcore scene, and a lot of good schools. But I don't like Boston.

It's 75 % certain that I'll be moving to Philadelphia, how is it there though?
