Top metal colleges

@ WAIF - Then it's awesome that I didn't go ahead with Boston University.

It's 75 % certain that I'll be moving to Philadelphia, how is it there though?

On the other hand I could have introduced you to some cool metal dudes at BU and the small good metal scene around here. And BU is a good school. No clue about Philly. There's every possibility that it's no better.

Boston is bigger than Philly isn't it? Plus you get all the filth from New Jersey flowing into Philly.

I'd much prefer living in Boston over living in Philly. What school are you looking at Ananth?

I've been doing some research and i've found out that Chicago has a pretty good metal scene. I don't know if that's true but how is it there any ideas?

@ WAIF - BU guys were being niggards and gave me no scholarship [All thanks to their own inefficiency and carelessness]. It is an excellent school but they don't even offer financial aid for foreign students, so that's completely unviable.

@krampus - Drexel university. I got some amazing recs about the school from people I know and they've given me a ton of scholarships and ample opportunities to develop etc etc, in short, they think I'm destined for greatness.
I have an uncle [and his family] living in one of those awesome Philly suburbs so it's more or less a natural choice. Not like I'll be living with them though, but it's an important factor for my paranoid folks. If I were to live with them it would be Bangalore 2.0 and the same old problem as I'd mentioned to you earlier

@ thesushi - Cool. I'm Bengaluru huduga as well. You'll probably see me somewhere in the scene or on headbangers, Subbu's site. A bit of brotherly advice, cut down on the emoticons and metchullzzzz in your sig for your own good.

Ananth bengaluru hudugaa where do you live now? In blore or you went off to college already? if you're still here you might have heard about SummerStorm festival. Lamb of god man :D

I know Arpan, guy behind Overture, quite well. I'm still in Bangalore. The only reason I'll be going for that concert, if I do go that is, is for Extinct Reflections.

oh wow not for log?!? okay well since u know the guy behind overture you might be able to get backstage passes?? ;)

BTW when you guys said that lot of metal things come through New York, did you mean New York state or NYC?

Don't go to a university solely because of the city/area's metal scene. That's quite a stupid thing to do. Especially from an Indian's point of view. By that I mean that virtually any place will have a better scene than what we have here. And I'd advice you to take off that signature and reduce the LOG fanboy-ness if you want to be taken seriously!!

lol ok i'll take it off my sig..and what you mean log fanboy??
Yeah, Chicago seems great. But just to tell you, i'm a US citizen. So, yeah...

Chicago has a decent metal scene but a lot of hipsters, and theres also some good schools, and one of the best around, University of Chicago.

How are you aware of the hipsters located in Chicago? I feel like this statement can only be made by a person who lives in Chicago.

Depends the area, there are some pretty nice places, and there are some eh places, and there are some downright shitty places. I lived in an eh place on the southside, in a neighborhood mostly of white and mexican trash. However, the city is awesome, theres lots of things to do, and lots of metal shows and a decent metal scene. Its easy to get around via the El and the busses, and overall I enjoyed it, but the weather fucking sucks. As for housing, depends where you live but the nicer areas generally aren't gonna be very cheap. Not sure how much the condos/apartments cost in the downtown area, but there are tons of 'em. In the UChiago area my friend rented a studio apartment and it cost like $750 a month or so, so a bit steep. My dad and brother live in a 3bdr apartment with a hugeass basement for like $1000, so again, it varies. Checkout the craigslist for Chicago to get a better idea, and if you have questions about certain areas let me know.

Also, very cool website to see the crime in a certain area:
