So 2 months ago I blew the transistor in my Laney VH100R. I got it fixed by a man who fixes 99% of the amps in SLC. Well here I am 2 months later and at practice today my transistor blew AGAIN!!!!! Has anyone else had this problem? and if so is there something that I'm missing thats causing this?

Do you by any chance mean 'transformer' and not transistor?

Transistors cost pennies and are as field-replaceable as a knob; transformers explode and cause major problems when they do so.

Get the rest of the amp checked, make sure your impedances are matched, give the amp the 'smell test' to try and find anything else that went ka-pop, and if that doesn't do it - and the guy who fixed it already doesn't know what happened - good luck with the people who fix the other 1% of amps around there.

My amp never shits the bed, and it's a Crate. It's one thing to have a transformer blown, but if your Laney is incontinent too the thing should go back to the factory.

so whats the exact failure? i checked out a schematic and most of the transitors are used for switching relays and stuff.

Is this repair guy authorized by Laney? you may have to get into contact with the factory and find another shop. you said he does 99% of the repair work, so that means there's a chance he just bangs out the repairs too fast. he could see a burned component and replace that burned component, see that the amp works again and shoves it out the door. If a transistor blows it'll take out other parts with it. A good tech will check over the whole circuit and let the amp burn-in for a while to make sure it doesn't fail again.

Ask around about people's luck with repairs. if he's the only guy, you may have to ship it somehwere else. It could be coincidence too, if the amp failed the same, way call the guy and speak to him try to work out a deal. I don't know what you situation is like, so an outside reapir guy could be pointless or nescessary. There's a good tube guy up here in the Buffalo NY area, He's the only guy in the area with Mesa certification, which is hard to get. they sent him a fucked up head and he had to send it back in perfect working order. his shop also did a nice job restoring my friend's 60w Soldano.

Good luck.
