Varg Vikernes is a free man

Couldn't care less. Man did his time, let him go in peace. If you don't agree with that, vote for someone who'll increase prison sentences or go into politics yourself.
I would, only I don't live in Norway. Instead, I live in a country where people go to jail for life when they kill dudes and then try to escape prison and blow up churches.

Anyhow, since we're on the topic:
Possibly the worst idea in the history of music...

Jackson Rathbone, the teen heartthrob from "Twilight", has reportedly agreed to play Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who is currently serving a Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) and setting fire to three churches — in the upcoming movie "Lords Of Chaos".

Based on Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind's book of the same name, the film depicts true events and revolves around the black metal sub-culture that spawned a wave of murders and church arsons across Norway in the early 1990s.

Making his English-language debut with "Lords Of Chaos" will be hot Japanese director Sion Sono.

Stuart Pollok of Los Angeles-based Saltire Entertainment, Ko Mori of Eleven Arts and Oh Jungwan of Korea's Bom Productions are producing the film, which starts shooting in Norway in mid-September.

Three years ago, plans had been underway to make the book into a film. However, the producers lacked funding at the time.

Now, however, with funding underway, producer Pollok is in Cannes to promote the project.

Why did you choose to make this film?

"It is a fascinating topic, a great visual world to depict, and a fun portrayal of Norway," Pollok told Dagbladet.no. "Black metal is possibly the largest cultural export of Norway in the past twenty years."

In his manuscript to Norway's Hans Fjellestad, Pollok revealed that the film will be based on actual events.

It will be a story of youth and youthful energy, said Pollok, but he emphasised that the film will fall under the teen film category, and that it will be a psychological horror film.

The events that came to pass are interesting and fascinating, said Pollok.

Pollok confirmed to Dagbladet.no that he will also be casting Norwegian actors.

Svein Andresen of Film Camp, which is responsible for the Norwegian recording locations and production, stated "What happened has been widely known to the public for a long time, and is now known worldwide. This was a gang that declared war on society. Actually, it is not surprising that Norwegian filmmakers have picked up on this piece of history."

Rathbone plays Jasper in Summit's "Twilight" series and is currently shooting the lead role in M. Night Shyamalan's $140-million "The Last Airbender" for Paramount Pictures.

In a 2004 statement posted on the Burzum.org web site, Vikernes slammed the "Lord Of Chaos" book as "a pool of mud," insisting that "the vast majority of all the statements made in this book are either misinterpretations; taken out of context; misunderstandings; malicious lies made by enemies; a result of ignorance; extreme exaggerations; and/or third-hand information at best. This includes the statements attributed to me!" He went on to say, "This book serves only one single purpose and that is to create a myth around my name and to mystify me. If that was their objective they have indeed succeeded with their work. Well, the book seems to have served one other purpose too. The authors have managed to fill the heads of a generation of metal fans with lies. What could have been a righteous revolt has been made into some pathetic, embarrassing, brain-dead, impotent and traditional poser-culture best exemplified by bands like DIMMU BORGIR — and indeed VENOM!"

Bit confusing that article, it says it's gonna be based on true events in black metal sub-culture and then says it's gonna be a a psychological horror film. Wut!? :erk:

See now that movie news is OLD. Which is why I didn't post it, but everyone got on my ass about the shit I posted being old which it wasn't. Poo.

Varg's music is unlistenable. Also, going to a Norwegian prison is not very metal. No death sentence and no rape? It's a like a retirement home? Only 20 some years for MURDER? Pathetic.

haha oh man is that sparkly vampire fag really going to play Varg

that's got to be the most hilarious movie news of this decade

If anything, dude should have gotten a medal for blowing up the churches.

Well iirc he was just planning on it, but basically this is a pretty fucking stupid comment right here, which would make you right at home with the 90s black metallers. "We want to strengthen Christianity so we can declare war on it." They had the excuse of being a bunch of dumb kids; what's your excuse?

That Christianity and religion in general is retarded and should cease to be practiced?

Except I'm not persecuting anyone. I'm just expressing mah opinion dawg.

Your opinion being that others should persecute religion so you can sit back and support/congratulate them? Comes down to the same thing if you ask me. Live and let live and all that I say, whether you are pro religion or anti.

Well let's put it this way, I feel that we're all entitled to believe what we want but at the same time, religion is such a disgusting concept imo that I wouldn't exactly cry if a few crazies blew up some churches. I'm not going to tell you what to believe in, but I do think religion should be wiped out personally. And I say this having plenty of Christian and Muslim friends.

And by the way, WeAreInFlames... Strengthening Christianity? Atheism in Scandinavia (and Europe/US as a whole) is rising and has risen exponentially since the black metal movement. If anything their actions weakened Christianity.

None of this has anything to do with Varg's music though, which is awesome regardless of his personal beliefs (which are stupid as fuck).

Well, it kind of does as long as you're paying for a cd. That's money in his pocket.

You know, there are some countires in this world where one is beheaded or imprisoned for life if one distroys or physically damages something that is culturally significant. That would be such things as culturally significant buildings, antiquities etc. Some of these old things happen to be churches. Some of my ancestors were Christian. Some of my ancestors were forced to act like they were Christian even if they were not. Some of them helped build churches. Some of them laboured hard to be able to pay their taxes so that some dude could build a church. Some of my ancestors blood, sweat and tears was burnt down by the likes of Varg, at his calling, apparently. I understand he's not happy with what the Christians have done to our people. That does not mean I think we need to stoop to their level.

Their actions didn't weaken or strengthen it tbqh. Anyhow, I was quoting Varg in an interview in some metal mag from way back. Which is exactly my point: their beliefs were fucking stupid. People really need to develop the ability to listen to the music of people with stupid beliefs without feeling the need to defend that person and their beliefs.

It wasn't until hmm.. a year ago that his stuff was actually officially released in the US. The only way to get a Burzum album was to download it or to buy an import. Since I don't want to give him my money and support his racist ass ideologies, I downloaded his stuff. Respect the art, not the artist.

I couldn't care less if the buildings were culturally significant. They are there to recruit more mindless drones to Christianity and shouldn't be there in the first place. And your whole argument about "some of my ancestors built churches so therefore you should show some respect" is like saying "some of my ancestors were Nazis and shot down innocent people into mass graves with blood sweat and tears... show some respect!" It's not my intention to insult your ancestors, but at the same time I feel that a church, of any religion, is a dangerous thing in the first place. It's a symbol that represents corruption, bigotry, and lies. Anyways that's just my opinion and I don't expect you to agree with me on the matter. But I still respect your beliefs and the beliefs of your ancestors even though I may strongly disagree with them. ;)

Must be the 5th time I said in this thread that I don't care about dude's beliefs. Should learn to read ASAP.

The entire black metal movement's anti-Christian idea came about simply as a means of rebelling for the sake of it without actually caring about Satanism and anti-Christianity. It was pointless angsty nonsense. But as an atheist, if they are going to help impede religion then props to them.

Or you could not blow up a church and sit back and watch christian religions destroy themselves which they seem to be doing a pretty damn good job of.

But all that aside it might be interesting musically to hear something new.

If they blow eachother up that's cool too in my eyes. I ain't lifting a finger. A man can have hopes and dreams though. :D

Now now I didnt say blow each other up lol...dont take it literally I meant by all the scandals and shit and what not they have pretty much ruined thier credibility and in the end who's gonna wanna listen to guy telling you dont do this that and this because its wrong when he's prolly goin out on a friday night and doin somethin 10 times worse,I know I dont.
