Look right, I dont have a problem with all the newbies "expressing" their views about blackwater park and still life and stuff. But it seems to be of to frequent to me , that I see the questions like "who was melinda" or "BWP vs SL" ect, and quite F***king frankly it is really starting to piss me off!..
I feel like I should start some sort of Senior opeth club or something I dunno......
People who have experienced abit more of a opeth experience that 1 album..jeez!
oh and im not saying divide groups annihilate newbies whatever
just a solution to the problem please.
Imagine answering the question "who was melinda?" for a few years..ahhh:loco:
So please some views and comments on this ..

not too sure about that.....
I mean, I've been into opeth since just before MAYH came out, so am I still a relative newbie? I think it's ok for the newbs to ask questions.... it's just like when I first got onto the queensryche irc chats.... I was a longtime fan, but still didn't know about the whole "who killed mary" debate.....
anyhow... even being the relative newbie that I am, I'm still totally dedicated to this band, to the point of travcelling to europe to see them at wacken this year, and to be fortunate enough to meet the guys backstage and hang out for a few drinks......

anyhow.... I just think you may be being a bit harsh on people who we should be welcoming into the folds of having discovered a superior style of music....

Most other groups on the net tend to get over this by having some sort of FAQ to answer frequently asked, 'newbie' questions. But I wouldn't get too worked up about it. Is it that much of an inconvenience? You don't HAVE to answer every question you see. Maybe your just too nice a guy ;)

I haven't seen a "who was Melinda" thread in a while before the new one. Every board has newbies, you just have to be patient with them. And or not read their threads.

Gah. I only got in2 Opeth 2 years ago, yet I know all the albums off by heart, am I still a newbie?
I think thats overly harsh, like we've all been children we've all been a newbie, and ne sort of divide like a "senior opethian" club would just suggests elitism and unfriendliness to me, so if they piss u off y not just ignore the who was melinda threads?

hey VT calm down man, you have 9 posts what the hell what right do you have to bitch like that? You have been here for a month, jesus. If you see a thread like that don't read it! It is that simple, you may see a new view on things. It isn't like what the newbies say is primitive or always the exact same thing as what you say or have seen said... No hard feelings.

Making another board for the "veterans" of Opeth would be the most stupid display of elitism. It's highly unnecessary. Deal with it.

Have you ever posted on the Opeth Domain forum? Do you know how long VT has been there? Do you know how many times the same question gets asked over and over again? No ... but anyway, I'm not trying to bring you down ... just that I empathise with VT. After posting and answering to Opeth topics for years, patience tends to get a little more than tested. I think the FAQ and a compulsory read of them b4 newbies post are both essential.

Nothing against any person who just stumbled onto the magnificance of Opeth...(I envy them actually).. but - it does tend to get old reading/hearing the same questions over and over for years - but I just don't read em anymore. Simple. Actually, the only thing I find "irritating" about it is... it proves that they've never read one interview or even read the official site because if you look around (even if you're "new") you can find every answer easily. Mikael gets asked all the "basic" questions every interview practically... and he handles it somehow. I figure if god can handle it, then I can too.

But this reminds me of something else that I DO find irritating is when someone orders a cd (any band) and before it arrives they ask around on the mailings lists whether they're gonna like it or not. :err: duh... tragic, if someone had to use their own heads and decide for themself.
:loco:

Older Opethians seem to be irritated easily. Why let it get to you? I've been listening for like a year and a half, but I've read "Who is Melinda" threads many times and I think, "Oh, they're happy. They just found Opeth. Good for them." Not, "Oh Christ! Not this question again!" Aren't older Opeth fans the ones you want to ask when you don't know how to find the answer? What a reliable source! Of course, some people do ask the damnest questions. Awe'well. I guess I'm just more patient with newbies.

im getting tired of people posting on here complaining about the same thing!!!!, im sure i've read 2-3 simillar threads saying the same thing as yours VT! so who's being repetative now?

although a FAQ thingy or whatever sounds a good idea, so someone should do that:D

:loco: though I am a newbie to this board, I am by no means a newbie to Opeth. Been there since Morningrise. But, I have no problems with the newbies....don't know how many newbies I've spawned up here where I live, and it SO nice to see someone change from their Limp Bizkit ways and fall head over heels for Opeth...so no,I think it's a GREAT thing

Although I am a newbie to this board, I can definitely see how the same questions can become quite annoying. Anyway, there will always be newbies. There's just the question of whether they will educate themselves before asking repetitive, already-answered questions.

opethinfinity, do you go to App. State or just live in Boone. It's nice to see a fellow North Carolinean on this board. By the way, My grandparents have a house in Blowing Rock.
