Viking Metal

well, theres no one else that really sounds like them, i mean there are similarities, but on the whole, their brand of metal is fairly individual, so i dont think that they can necessarily be completely squeezed into one genre or another

Well about pagan metal.. anyone heard of Cruachean ?? This irish band is somewhat Pagan or Folk or a mix...

AA is something like: Melodic Viking-Death Metal or vice versa.. :kickass: :headbang:

If we have to choose one....Viking Death Metal is the best label for Amon Amarth. They have lyrics about Vikings and war....they sing in a Death Metal style....so lets just call them Viking Death Metal and be done with it.

Amon Amarth is definately viking metal... we've gotten that established. But different Viking Metal bands have different influences, Amon Amarth has some Death Metal influences which is reflected by their sound. Thyrfing on the other hand, has some Folk Metal influences, so even though both the bands are Viking Metal, they have completely different sounds

Viking Metal is really more of a lyrical label. The Viking sound that people sometimes speak of is really originally Epic/Folk Metal. Amon Amarth is Melodic Viking Death Metal because they are a Melodic Death Metal Band lyrically dealing with Viking themes and Norse Mythology/Beliefs. It's the same type of thing with the band Nile when they are labeled as Egyptian Death Metal.
