Started off great and then quickly spun into a night-time soap opera....I'm really disappointed in how it has devolved.

When Game of Thrones - 1st season was on I got pretty excited first, but after a handful of episodes it got into, like previous posters perfectly said, "a night-time soap opera". Vikings held me through 1st season, eventhough it had some soap on it

2nd season has some soapy stuff with Ragnar's wives, but it only lasts an episode or two and next thing you know he's invading england and fighting Jarl Borg.

Great show. I just wish the dialogue was better.
For example, when Bjorn asked Ragnar "Did you have sex with her?". I understand they're going for a contemporary Norse way of speaking but "Did you sleep together?" or "Did you fuck her?" would have been more believable.
I think this season has been too slow, also. It started off amazing, then it took all these episodes just to wrap up the Jarl Borg plot. I want Ragnar back in Wessex, damn it. Isn't that what he's famous for? Less soap drama more raiding. The show is at it's best when it feels like Spartacus. At it's worst when it feels like Game of Thrones.

I haven't seen it yet, but is it yet another porn series with an excuse plot? Because while I used to love HBO's series, they're really becoming too porny for me lately.

I watched one episode a few days ago and haven't gotten back to it yet, but so far so good.
It wouldn't really be an HBO show without gratuitous titties. Some of these girls are gorgeous, so I can't say I mind. Meanwhile, Vikings is on the History Channel. The one sex scene I saw was pretty PG-13.

Definitely not. It isn't retarded with sex like those shows. There's hardly any nudity at all.
