I had no clue what went on with the Black Metal scene until I read Lords of Chaos. It was a pretty interesting book.

I think Black Metal bands just make fun of themself, both thier lyrics and thier apperance (though that doesnt really matter...but it looks so funny with all these wannabe evils..). And thier music aint nothing special mostly.

I don't listen to most BM stuff, but that is because I don't have the time to check those bands out. So I can't really give any comments about BM bands, plus I really dislike to label bands and most of all I dislike the word "true"!!!!!!!!
TRUE means to be intolerant in most ways or may I say in any way!!!
So if a band label themselve as "true", well, they will end up on the end of my "check out list"... I guess!

i thought most of it was making fun of itself too, until i read lords of chaos and got informed on the topic.
but it is still funny how most of it involves winter, north, and being cold in the woods all the time. that kinda stuff always makes me snicker.
but the music rules. its so raw and brutal while still creating atmosphere, even without using keyboards.

You make broad statements like "most Black Metal is racist" and then try to argue your point without any facts. And don't try to use Lords of Chaos as a reference, because the author of the book is borderline racist himself (see interview in the book "Lucifer Rising"), and it really only makes reference to Varg Vikernes, and Hendrik Mobus' small clique of idiotic children, who fancy themselves revolutionaries. And who I already know are Nazi piles of shit (and in jail).
Come back to the fight with some ammunition, and I will have some respect for your opinion.

i heard that the newest singer for marduk (legion) is a racist as well, but i dont know that one for sure.
and the fact that the style is called NSBM kinda rings a bell.
the reason that most arnt as out and open about it anymore is because it isnt popular anymore. it was part of the extreme hatred to be a socialist, not so much anymore. i personally think its becuase the genre spread outside of northern europe and is not as isolated anymore.

sorry, i ment most of the older black metal. black metal is more broad and spans the globe at this point.
but i still think that racism is very prominate in the genre, and just becuase they deny it (or dont mention it at all) doesnt mean they arent racist.

Well, Darkthrone are racist. That's for sure... They were supposed to make a clear statement about that on the cover of Transilvanian Hunger but Peaceville didn't allow it.
Hellhammer of Mayhem said that non-whites aren't supposed to play black metal.
Varg Vikerness is clearly a racist.
One member of Emperor said something alike with Hellhammer's statement if I'm not mistaken.
So not that much but not that little either. Considering that Burzum has quite a few followers.

Vintersorg have nothing to do with black metal he is unique in his genre. I am a big fan of black metal its what I listen to mostly but it does not stop me from enjoying other form of metal, except for Nu-Metal though.
