Ozzy could sing during the Sabbath years!

Sure he was not in the same league as Ian Gillan or David Byron, still he was a decent singer, and more important : he could add a unique feeling to Sabbath songs. That's what matters the most in his case in my opinion.

I always get a kick out of people who, have this negative view on 80's glam rock, like they were too good for it. I happen to think no matter how much you dispised these bands you listened to them. I find it amusing that now, since they aren't "cool" you'd like to not acknowledge that they even existed!
You were cranking Bullet Boys & shit like that like 80% of us that grew up in North America between 1981-1991. Not to stirt up trouble, but I call 'em like I see 'em.

No offense Sixx, but I wasn't ever into the glam thing, regardless of what you think. I absolutely hated all that crap...I had a sister who was a year younger than me and it was constantly being cranked in her room and I was pretty much disgusted by it. I'm sure there actually are tons of people who say they didn't listen but actually did, I agree with you there - but I'm not part of the "80%" that you mentioned in your post. The only times I had anything to do with that type of music was when my sister was being a teenage bitch or when I was sifting through Headbangers Ball waiting for the real metal bands to come on...which wasn't all that often after a while...

As for calling it like you see it - you can call what you really do see and know, but please don't call my situation because I don't believe we grew up together, or ever hung out in those days, so you really don't have any idea about what I listened to or not. You are entitled to think what you want, but I'm also entitled to tell you what the truth is.

To be honest, I was more concerned with learning every Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Black Sabbath song on bass and trying to start a thrash band to have time to listen to any of the fluffy glam shit that was out there. Maybe if I DID get into all that crap, I would have gotten laid more, but I didn't.

Not to stir up trouble, but when it comes to my own history, I call it like I know it...and I think I am secure enough in who I am that I would admit that I used to listen Air Supply if I actually did, let alone a bunch of stupid assed glam bands...

I never really cared for Ozzy's voice and this is coming from a big Sabbath fan. It's too thin and whiny for me. And yes, Geoff Tate has gone downhill. But it just sounds like he doesn't want to try anymore, like he's on Auto-pilot. But i did see them live with Dream Theater and he can still hitthose high notes, at least I say them. Not QUITE as well as he used to, but nevertheless.

James Hetfield's voice, IMO, hit it's stride from 1986-the mid 90's. His voice is still good, but he over does that "argh", "yah", and "dah" stuff and isn't really as aggressive as it used to be.

Thomas Gabriel Warrior of Celtic Frost fell far. From the really aggressive vocal delivery of the Hellhammer demos and the first few Celtic Frost albums, to the really whiny delivery of the last two Frost albums. And you can hear his voice kinda start to go on Into The Pandemonium when he tries to unleash the aggressive vocals.

And i NEVER liked Axl Rose's vocals. He always annoyed me.

Phil Anselmo- He was awesome with Pantera, now his voice is just so-so.
He could really hit those high notes on Cowboys From Hell.

Forgot about him. Yeh, he could nail those high notes on Cowboys, but now......honestly, i just cannot stand his vocals anymore. It's diminished so much.

I saw Pantera on the last tour they did, and Phil avoided every high note he could...especially the one at the end of Cemetary Gates...he didn't even bother...

I guess when you scream that much and get that high all the time, your voice isn't going to last too long...

Same here. I don't think that ozzy is a good singer but he has a very distinctive voice, which makes up for him not being that great. His voice was perfect for Sabbath though.

Shit, I think Vince Neil won this award! Followed by his close second Axl, as for Ozzy I don't he could ever actually "sing". He's voice is great, but I get sick of it real quick. Halford smokes alot of cigs, but still has a great vocals, I will admit there's a shitload of reaper (?) on his voice to enhance his range.

I rest my case, you are one of the people that thinks that the glam scene shouldn't have been, for whatever reason. I didn't say I knew you, I didn't say I grew up with you, but I do believe you are one of those arrogant people that, thinks that it was beneath them to listen to rock music(glam).
Stupid assed glam bands?! You got a way with words too. Make no mistake, the majority of the bands of that particular scene helped kill the genre, but to say that what they were doing didn't make a mark in the history of rock music would be just plain assinine.

ah-ha! see? I WAS right! So, he can sing in the studio. They have studio tricks that can fix crappy voices. Playing live, IMO, is the REAL test of whether a band can really play or not, and if Vince can't cut it live, then he's crap.

Pantera wasn't much but noise after "Vulgar" in my opinion and that is one of the reasons why. Phil screwed his voice up on CFH tour then finished it off on the Vulgar tour. He stopped "singing" after that release.
