BTW, "wankery" presupposes that the guitarist/keyboardist/who-the-fuck-ever is only pleasing themselves, but, I dunno, personally I dig a lot of Dream Theater's "hey! Look how awesome we are!" segments. Does that mean I like watching Petrucci jack off?

AHHH!!!!! How could you say such a thing?!?!?!?!?! Al Di Meola kills John McLaughlin. A much better songwriter in my opinion. Who can deny the genius of Egyptian Danza, Mediterranean Sundance, or Suite - Golden Dawn?

Well Dream Theater are kinda scattered. They've done a bunch of great songs, as well as a whole bunch of really shitty ones. I think Awake and I&W are miles beyond their other material, but ToT has some cool stuff. Music that modern tend to bore me but it works.
