WANT ANOTHER BAND THIS YEAR???? (update 5/4)

Glenn, I realize that someone has already stated that they will be willing to sponsor the "mystery" band but would you be willing to accept a co-sponsor if I am willing to pay the minimum of $500?

+10000

I sure hope if we are close another post / e-mail goes out.

Count me in for an initial "ante". Then if more is needed and we are close, it would be good to know.

How would Shadows Fall work in this type of arrangement. Main stream, been mainly a support act, decent sales but not stellar, they are far better and more talented musicians than those in the genre where they are lumped.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I just put my initial down, but if it's running down to the wire and we're almost there I'll gladly put more in.

A. Band is more mainstream than the typical progpower band.

B. They have outsold everyone on the bill except for Hammerfall and Kamelot.

C. They have outdrawn their headliner.

A: Mutiny Within
B: Mutiny Within might qualify here also
C: With the crapfest that has been the last two Sonata Arctica cd's, I could see Mutiny Within out drawing them.

Just a shot in a dark, who knows. :loco:

Before anyone mentions anymore bands, please remember Glenn said the band came to him and asked if they could play this year. How many headliner bands are going to do that and accept not being the main headliner on either night?
I think some of the bands being mentioned are way too big already to do that.

Very good point :kickass:

No idea really. The only thing that makes me nervous is Glenn saying that they have a broader appeal then the usual ProgPower bands. Fingers crossed that this doesn't mean light or squishy or just plain weird.

Must trust in Glenn, must trust in Glenn, must trust in Glenn.

Given what I saw last night, I don't think so. The crowd was good sized and enthusiastic for SA.

As for Mutiny Within. :puke:

Holy hell I was just going to say ALESTORM and you beat me to it. You were the last post I had to check. I love them and hope it is them. I'm following Zod's plan. Pay a little now and more later if I love the band. Thanks as always to Glenn.

Yeah I was thinking that, but I don't think Alestorm's ever been to the US before and I don't think they have a new cd coming out. Also, they are going to be on tour supporting Sabaton just after ProgPower, so they aren't headlining as far as I know. Sorry Purveyor, I had my hopes up there for a minute, too.

I've seen them twice here. First with TYR and then with ELUVEITIE.

Well no one said that the band had to be "mainstream", it doesn't take a mainstream band to outsell every band on this bill besides Kamelot and Hammerfall. Hell, it wouldn't even take a really commercially successful one to top all the other bands' US sales combined.

Yes, I'm quoting myself because apparently no one read this post.

Also, just because a band has "broader" appeal doesn't mean it's completely out of left field, it simply means it appeals to people who wouldn't traditionally go to see "Prog/Power" bands. There are a lot of bands and styles that fall under this category that aren't completely "not prog" or "not power". It's just that in addition to appealing to "us", it also appeals to other people, not necessarily "the mainstream". I have a lot of friends who aren't into "this" subculture and all the bands it entails, but they are still generally rock/metal fans that don't just listen to trendy music.

Also, Glenn said 5th slot, playing an hour. If a band is a mainstream band, they wouldn't even think twice about playing that slot. Bands like Coheed and Porcupine Tree can headline their own US tours and play to sold out crowds of more than the festival can hold. Why would they even WANT to be involved at all, let alone compromise their touring logistics (stage show, etc) and set time to do it.

I wish it was Eclipse but they don;t fit the criteria Glenn listed in his initial post

Another thought I had was CATHEDRAL.

What i don't know is how they drew when they opened for SYL, err, I think that's who they toured with here last time.

Kind of a band that would fit Prog Power, and not fit PP, all at the same time.
