He could have said that just because if it is a concept album and they're trying to make us figure it out, he couldn't have just said "yeah it's a concept, but we're not going to tell you what it's about", it's easier to just say it's personal.

Just a guess, but it could also not be a concept at all, but I don't know.

the overall problem is the order and the time, which seems to change several times.
 
the picture with the man reading the letter: my first impression was, that the content of the letter is the "text" written on the right side next to him. the guy is reading the decipered text. but since we know that the decipered text are the lyrics of watershed the result of this interpretation is, that the man writing the letter is actually Mike. Is this really a possible interpretation? Im not shure...

you also have to remember mike wrote these lyrics in one night, and are personal to his thoughts, which means they cant possibly have this much analytical depth to them.

not really; lotus eater miss a verse at the end and hessian peel has missin words/lines also the enitre backwards are; Out on the courtyard, hi sweet satan I see you...

I don't know, you just have to listen carefully, you have to focus on the quieter voices, it's really hard and I didn't hear the whole sentence I heard it from the word "financially" I think. It's very difficult because the other sounds (keyboards, talking) are louder and it disturbes focusing.
 
HornedReaper: I'm curious where you got those lyrics from. The lyrics at the beginning of Heir Apparent sound accurate. He could be saying 'cold', but 'slow' does make more sense. The lyrics at the beginning of The Lotus Eater are good. Those are pretty understandable anyway.

The 'Grow seven idol's false embrace' is what throws me off. I know that was the original transcription on Dark Lyrics, but personally, 'Ghost of an idol's false embrace' seems a lot more sensical and matches what he's saying a bit better.

I think there IS a concept to the lyrics... somewhat in line with the images in the booklet. I feel it's to do with a bitter divorce, seen from the different points of view of the family members, which revolves around the father's infidelity and the mother's illness. There's a few repeated concepts - people being gullible or lied to, and a "burden" or "rhyme", and repeated talk of a mother, father and son (which fits in with the booklet imagery).

Also, the lyrics to "Heir Apparent" seem to talk about an abusive or manipulative father who is seldom around, and when he is there he talks his way back into the family only to fuck things up again. The last few lines seems to be the son hoping that the father will never return, as he is the "heir apparent" now.

This fits in with lyrics in "The Lotus Eater", which seems to talk about how the narrator (probably the mother) spent years "caring for a liar", and in the end seems to say the son overheard her and the father talking "in the smoke of lost hope" with "the language of parting so clear and so true", indicating a a breakup.

Anybody agree with me there?

These lyrics are from the code in the special edition of Watershed. They're all on the first line (though backwards, so you could say they're on the last line).

Yeah, excellent lyrics in my opinion.
