I don't think that's XES's point so much. Plugs like Oneknob, EZ Mix, EZ Drummer etc are really de-valuing the role of audio professional's around the world. The plugin manufacturers are basically saying "you don't need an amp or a drummer or a mix engineer or a mastering engineer, just buy our plugins and it'll all do it for you!"
Musicians want their records done cheaply and easily, for them cheapness is achieved by torrent sites, easiness is achieved by these increasingly simple plugins.
Of course these guys aren't going to match the quality of something that an experienced engineer is going to put out, they just go "it sounds good enough" because it's cost them next to nothing.
The cheapness and quality of modern audio interfaces has made recording accessible to anyone, but the real damage is being done by these plugin manufacturers who are actually playing down the role of mix engineers in every new product release, except its the mix engineers who actually buy the stuff and the musicians that get the cracks to record their music on the cheap.
These guys are marketing plugins as a replacement for engineers and marketing them at musicians who only want to do it themselves because it's cheap. They then bitch that everyones cracking plugins and downloading them for free instead of paying for them. Except now even the guys who would normally buy them can't afford them due to not getting any work because of the plugin manufacturers devaluing their trade!

Maybe now some pro can buy them and make good sounding mixes out of them...but the direction that many companies are aiming, in my opininion, is totally wrong because it will end to revolt against them. As I said, a plugins of presets, a single knob plugin, is more usefull to a nerd than to a pro. When 100 pros buy it and 200000 nerds crack it......don't know...

I'm probably a few months late to this disscusion,but here's my comment: Take it easy and stop freaking out...You're all very,very talented engeniers... You should know better ...the plugins are not everything.Let's pretend that you just started playing in a band you have guitar rig 4,cubase LE,and one knob bundle,and no expierience at mixing audio!...Is the one knob plugin going to make your mixes sound brutal as "brutal"???
