What are some good new bands?

I'm trying to get into some new music.

What would really help would be a description of what style of music you are looking for, and what do you consider "new".

Beloved

They mix triple guitar melodic rock with chaotic dischordant hardcore. Pretty interesting.

The Polyphonic Spree

Symphonic indie pop. Sounds like The Flaming Lips with an orchestra and a gospel choir. Quite disturbing on many levels.

Cave In

Not particularly new, this rock band has existed for about 7 years. Over the course of these 7 years they have rapidly transformed from an extremely chaotic metalcore band with bouts of noise / feedback experimentation to a Failure-esque space rock band to what they are now, a very melodic hard rock band similar to Failure mixed with Led Zeppelin with touches of mainstream rock.

Oh wait... you wanted metal? Should have specified...

Might be a little mainstream for some peoples tastes, but I recommend Killswitch Engage- Alive Or Just Breathing.

I was very surprised by how good this CD was considering they're on Roadrunner. That's the main reason I had never bothered to check 'em out, but I did get to see them live opening with Shadows Fall for Cradle Of Filth. Their live show got me intrigued enough to check out the CD.

Surprisingly there is a lot of Swedish thrash/deathish influence a la At The Gates and Arch Enemy, even some pretty harsh death vocals mixed with nice clean vocals kinda how Shadows Fall does.

Recommended tracks:

"Self Revolution"
"Fixation On The Darkness"
"Just Barely Breathing"
"To The Sons Of Man"
"Temple From The Within"
"Vide Infra"
