I've never actually had porridge, what is it exactly?

its just rolled oats boiled in water or milk. the oats soak up the water and get soft and creamy so it goes from this

The term is far from archaic, as It's a title for a type of food. Just because you and your homeless friends don't have a word in your dialect doesnt make it archaic.
