tough question,, ill do it like this

Hendrix: Are You Experienced (Maybe the album that introduced what the guitar is really capable of doing)
Pink Floyd: Wish You were Here (musicians just doing what they want and at their best)
Morbid Angel: Covenant (Metal's maybe best hour of death, thrash and grooves)
Opeth:Blackwater Park (A combo of hard metal and beautiful acoustics mixed together in a good honeycomb)
Led Zeppelin: 2 (Another album that was all about guitar and has good variety of original riffs)

Runner Ups
Death: Symbolic,

At the Gates: Terminal Spirit Disease
Crytopsy: And then youll beg,None so Vile

Impaled: Mondo Medicale

My Bloody Valentine are shoegazer rock, the album Loveless is characterized by very loud and hypnotic guitars and a dreamy pop sound. There are also a lot of strange guitar effects similar to Fripp & Eno's experimental rock.

Here's my list:

1. My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans
2. Radiohead - Ok, Computer
3. The Afghan Whigs - Black Love
4. Anathema - Eternity
5. Maudlin of the Well - Bath + Leaving Your Body Map

My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans
Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Tiamat - Wildhoney
Solefald - Pills Against the Ageless Ills

Blackwater Park -Opeth
Last Fair Deal Gone Down-Katatonia
Lateralus-Tool
Biomech-Ocean Machine
A Fine Day To Exit-Anathema

Just nudging these five are The Perfect element pt1-Pain of Salvation, In Absentia-Porcupine Tree and Still Life, Deliverence and Damnation.

Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt.II Scenes From A Memory
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Blind Guardian - Tales From the Twilight World

Thats it really...
Possible runner up:
Gamma Ray - No World Order

I can't list just one Opeth album, it would take up the whole list.

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Opeth - Blackwater Park
The Cure - Pornography
Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Switchblade Symphony - Serpentine Gallery

gawd, so hard to select just five

btw, long time opeth listener, first time poster, lovely to be here :p
