Concept albums (top 5)

I love concept albums too much!! I'm gonna have to list more than five I'm afraid...

In no real order -

Pink Floyd - Animals
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Green Carnation - LoDDoD
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Maudlin of the Well - Bath + Leaving Your Body Map
Opeth - you know which ones
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

That'll do...

Opeth - Still Life
Pain Of Salvation - One Hour By The Concrete Lake
Edge Of Sanity - Crimson
Opeth - MAYH
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime

I used to like DT's SFAM alot, but with time it got really boring; especially the story does nothing for me since I figured it out.

Opeth-Still Life
Roger Waters-Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking
Savatage-Streets ( I can't believe no one else said this one)
Pink Floyd-Animals
Pink Floyd-The Wall

Opeth ~ My Arms Your Hearse
Dream Theater ~ Scenes From a Memory
Savatage ~ The Wake of Magellan
Pain of Salvation ~ One Hour by the Concrete Lake
Pink Floyd ~ The Wall

1. Pain of Salvation - "The Perfect Element Pt. 1"
2. Symphony X - "V"
3. Pain of Salvation - "Remedy Lane"
4. Angel Dust - "Enlighten The Darkness"
5. Zero Hour - "The Towers of Avarice"

I haven't heard too many. But..

1: Opeth - MAYH. It's not all fancy, and it's solid. And it has songs with silent lyrics. And it doesn't get all cheesey and reflective at the end.

This is mostly true for Still Life also, but that one isn't quite as solid a concept album. If you didn't pay much attention, you might never know it was a story. But MAYH, you know something's up. It has endcap songs, the lyrics are all one big paragraph, and songs end with the name of the next song.

And then in no special order, 2-5:
Opeth - Still Life
Dream Theater - SFAM
Pain of Salvation - One Hour by the Concrete Lake
Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element Pt. 1
POS - OHBTCL is not a concept album. It's an album that deals with the same theme, like say Iced Earth - Horror Show, but it has no real 'story' behind it. Thus it's not a concept album.

Lots of people have mentioned POS - OHBTCL. That is not a concept album. A concept album has a story behind it like Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime and Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory.

OHBTCL just deals with similar things lyrically, but each song stands on its own. Daniel Gildenlow has repeated himself many times that it is not a concept album.

NP: Strange Land - Anomaly

how is downward spiral, dark side of the moon, and ok computer concept ablums? i think you guys have the wrong idea towards concept albums.

Neurosis/ToN - Times of Grace/Grace
Roger Waters - Amused to Death
Pink Floyd - The Wall, Animals
ISIS - Oceanic, Celestial
J-Tull - Thick as a Brick
Frank Zappa - Joes Garage, Thingfish
Opeth - Still Life
Therion - Secret of the Runes

To me, OHBTCL is a concept album.

Please explain. How is it a concept album? Some people don't seem to know the difference between concept and theme albums methinks. Especially Gildenlow himself says it's not a concept album. Talk about being stubborn.

Argh so many to choose from!!!
anyway, here goes:

1. Opeth - Still Life
2. All Nile albums (well they're all concepts...sort of)
3. Bathory - Blood On Ice
4. Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
5. Edge Of Sanity - Crimson

With all the MAYH's and Still Life's picked so far you'd think this was an Opeth board or somthing.

Dark Side of the Moon
The Wall
Obsolete
Still Life
DNB

A few (actually the only ones I've heard):

Opeth- Still Life
Opeth- MAYH
maudlin of the Well- Bath + Leaving Your Bodymap (even though I haven't heard LYB yet)
Dream Theater- SFAM
A Perfect Circle- Mer de Noms (Yes, it's concept because they wrote the songs all centered around a name).

I want Green Carnation- LoDDoD so bad!
