To each his own and all of that but,
I find it silly when a band write a bunch of songs and then just writes separate lyrics but kinda sorta on the same theme and the calls it a concept album (*cough* isolate *cough* -adore the album though!)

A concept album to me is like Operation: Mindcrime or DT's SFAM, when everything was thought through from the beginning and written to tell a tale.

The first type is not bad in any way, but from my perspective inferior as it lacks the extra dimension that comes in when the music was originally written to convey a certain message and designed to fulfill that specific purpose.

At least, again from my humble perspective, if there isn't a continuous story it is not a concept album, and if there are no like repeated themes, ryhtms or riffs etc and the music wasn't written for a certain purpose, it is simply inferior.

Now more on-topic, here are my faves:

-Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth
-Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
-Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
-Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (although that hardly fulfills my rules from earlier in the post, but hey, Maiden is always gonna be Maiden for me...)
-Mind's Eye - A Gentleman's Hurricane
-Symphony X - V

In no particular order:

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime (at the time I bought it, it was truly different from anything that was on the market at that time)
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon
Iced Earth - Gettysburg (I know it's not a concept album but damn it's killer)
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

DT - SFAM

SYMPH X - V

EVERGREY - The Inner Circle

Ryche - Mindcrime

Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle

DIGITAL RUIN - Listen

Saga - Generation 13

In no order, and possibly of equal brilliance...

Pink Floyd - The Wall
Queensryche- Mindcrime
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
Opeth - Still Life

I'm glad to see Opeth's Still Life make someone's list .. it's a great, great disc.

I'll add a couple off the wall one's to the mix. Devin Townsend - Ziltoid The Omniscient, and Slough Feg - Traveller. I'm not sure those are top 5 level, but they are of a couple of my favorites from this past decade.

Uhm, did you read the topic?

The songs Helloween and Keeper of the Seven Keys are connected, and supposedly the title track of Keeper... pt3, but they are in no way concept albums.

If they are, please explain to me how Dr.Stein fits into the story.... :D

Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element
Pain of Salvation - One Hour By Concrete Lake
The Dear Hunter - Act II
Protest the Hero - Kezia
Between the Buried and Me - Colors

Definitely a fan of your choices :kickass:

I'm surprised Shadow Gallery's Tyranny and Room V aren't getting more love. Tyranny makes my top 10, but I was trying to stick to the original parameters.

I won't list Rush since 2112 and HEMISPHERES confine the concept to one side, and my favorites are going to look familiar to what has already been mentioned but:

Queensryche - OPERATION: MINDCRIME
Pink Floyd - THE WALL
Evergrey - IN SEARCH OF TRUTH
Savatage - STREETS
Pyramaze - LEGEND OF THE BONE CARVER
Vanden Plas - CHRIST O

I think Mindcrime has been mentioned like 24 times. If this was a poll, I think it would be winning.
