What do you guitarists think of the Marshall DSL50/100?

Dsl's are great for low-mid gain classic rock, and other stuff like that. The high gain channel is pretty bad, it's mushy and the gain isn't useful. I have a friend who changed the power tubes to 6l6's and it was an improvement.

My buddys band's (through the eyes of the dead) new album was all dsl 100 pushed with an od808. That tone was in no way low gain and was pretty crisp in my opinion. This album was also not quad tracked which was suprising when he told me considering the girth of the guitars.

I also recorded a band about a year and a half ago that used a dsl 100 for a g'n'r sound which worked great. While everyone was taking a break during bass tracking I messed around with it a bit more. Had my rg with 81's there, hooked up an OD in front and cranked some volume on the dsl and easily got a usable tone with basic tweaking. Very crunchy tone which would have sounded great on it's own and prolly even better with another amp mixed to taste. No mods and nothin special with the amp and there was duct tape holding the grill to the cab (moderately embarassing but I'm sure we've seen it all before tracking our local "talent" heh) fwiw don't discount the potential might of the dsl, especially at its price point online.

I mean if anything I know I can get great usable, album-able, lead tones then I'll get something like an ENGL e530 to throw into the loop (or direct) for the rhythm.
