im posting from this one cause its the only i have, and also because thats the one swano and his bro were refering about in the babbling i pasted in the other thread.

sounds boring...

sound=bad, music=mediocre... uninspirated...

Dan should do some Death Metal instead. Where is the new Bloodbath or Crimson III ?

OK. I still think that, if you knew Dan from other interviews, you'd see he's not big-headed. He's one of the sincerest men in the scene. But that's only my opinion so let's wait and see...I like almost everything he's done, from Edge of Sanity to Pan-Thy-Monium or even the vocals in Therion's "Theli". The man has some great songs FFS!

Ah I didn't know he was in Bloodbath as well, gotta give him some credit for that though. Bloodbath is the best 'new' old-school brutal death metal band at this moment. It's all been done before yeah, doesn't matter much in this case.

its not like i spent a couple of days around him heh :Smug:

Prog rock has never been and will never been a popular genre. The reason why most of you don't like it is because you're more familiar with Dan's death metal oriented stuff, and you want him continue in that direction. The thing is Dan has done it for years and now he's doing what speaks to him the best. I personally love both of his stuff, but anything proggy has more appeal to me. The Moontower album, for example, destroys 98% of the death metal stuff out there, but people diss it cause it's 70's influenced prog rock with harsh vocals only. As far as Nightingale goes, they have released four different albums all of which have their own identity and they have continually progressed and matured as a band. The second album The Closing Chronicles is an excellent release. Alive Again, the one you're currently talking about, is their catchiest, most energetic offering. You might like their back catalog better. Don't write them off as of yet. They certainly aren't a band you would digest with merely two listens. Then it's up to you. I just find it pointless slagging an artist like this just because his music doesn't speak to you. That's all I have to say on this issue. If you don't like it, listen to whatever appeals to you.

nothing special. typical hard rock thing. if i wanna listen to that i have me old priest and deep purple albums.

thats why i started a poll mate, so people can share their opinions and discuss it. and prog not being popular? what about bands like Yes filling huge arenas? oh please notice i called this poll 'what do you reckon of nightingale?', and not of 'what do you reckon of every single note swano recorded'. and the best way to check a band is to check the latest release isnt it?

it's not about prog rock or anyhting. i love old rush and some king crimson stuff. but this kinda music played today... i dunno, sounds dated.

maybe some of the stuff isn't ground-breaking but FFS...not everyone's into prog rock so...

but dan said its amazing! when someone's so confident about his own stuff, it has to be brilliant. thats why i was expecting so much :cry:

Yes' heyday was when they went pop in the 80's. They were never the big band during Close to the Edge era. Even so, it was the 70's back then. About three decades ago. The 80's had Marillion. Who else? Spock's Beard is one of the biggest bands today. So is Porcupine Tree. Do they play arenas? Nope. Prog rock requires more attention span musically and with its cerebral lyrics. We're not discussing the success of Nightingale as far as their record sales though. And my two cents is that they are a great band. They started out as Dan's solo work and finally grew and matured to the point that they toured and player various shows including ProgPower with actual members.

As for the best way to check a band is to check their latest release, I'm not sure about that. I certainly don't recommend St Anger when someone wants to get into Metallica, you know. Still I think Alive Again is an amazing album. You have every right to differ in your opinion, but I find it very immature of you to diss on Dan -one of the most productive artists of today- just cause you don't like it. I think anyone with an open mind and slightly interested in prog rock is bound to find something interesting in one of the four N'gale albums. Giving up on a band just because their latest release wasn't to my liking is pretty childish to say the least. Or just listen to the new Anathema and leave Nightingale to those who can appreciate their music.

That's because Dan thinks it's brilliant. He took over a year to write it and played his heart out on that CD. It holds a special place in his heart. The song "Eternal" is an excellent track with its 12+ running time. You don't have to like it, but I don't see why you're getting so upset and diss Dan cause you don't like the album as much as we do. We like it. You don't. Do you have a habit of complaining and slamming the artist every time they put out something you don't like? Get over it already. Anathema's stuff after Judgement isn't my thing, but I certainly don't sit and whine about it. I appreciate their older doom death work and the A4 stuff. I also like Duncan's own project. But the last two albums didn't do it for me and I've ready many a time how they said they were very pleased with those CDs. Understand what I mean? Obviously to them it has a great value, as for me, I don't like it as much as their back catalog. I do respect them and their opinion though.

arf youre really missing the story mezarkabul... he isnt dissing him because he dont like his music.
well, its just because swano thinks hes godlike. and his stuff just isnt.
