What ever happened to Johan Defarfalla ?

yes of course but i'd still be interested to hear about how he looks back on playing in a now pretty influential record / band :) i know he was never really interested in metal, so maybe it would be cool to ask what his influences were etc :)

Weird shit. I guess that leaves hearing Farfalla play bass out. This has got to be the only time I've ever heard of someone leaving a band for religious politics. Nasty. That's what it would be like if Steve Harris became a televangelist. Reminds me of 'Dicks with time machines' .

I don't know what it's like in Sweden, but "christian democrats" don't have much to do anymore with christianity as a religion (the name comes from the origin of those parties back in the 19th century) ... mostly it is about moral values which are dominant in our western society, which is based on christianity. But actually there are a lot of atheists and people of other religions voting for, and member of "christian democrats" parties.
Just wanted to make this clear, as I think that most Americans are not really informed about European politics ;)

This guy made Morningrise awesome.
how does his girl have blue eyes? That's genetically very very improbable.
Not really. Depending on what eye color the childs grandparents have the probablility varies, but I'd say there's about a 30% chance of getting blue eyes when one parent has brown eyes and the other has blue.

It's when both parents have blue eyes that the chance of the child getting brown eyes is next to 0%.

If you wish to find out more about these probabilities, check out this link:

It looks like it has some problems calculating the values if you're running Firefox on Linux, but it works fine with Internet Explorer on Windows.

^Oh, now I see the wife has blue eyes. The glasses make them look grey. recessive trait, yeah, i got those mixed up.
I'd like to ask him for recordings of his jazz/fusion stuff. The bass is fawwnky.

basically we're talking about conservatives, eh?

I can see how it would be easy.... but let's not let this thread degenerate into posts about Religion, or Politics..... you'll have to take these to a different forum.

Kudos to Black Session for his work.

And please, please, please do not email Johan. He was cordial enough to respond to this and I'd say that's enough for now. There is really no upside. Those unsolicited emails can and will become an annoyance very quickly and will only reflect poorly on the Opeth fan base and ultimately make the band look bad. I appreciate it....

welp, that basically owns. Only one of my grandparents has blue eyes, lucky me overcoming the rather slim odds of inheriting them.

we should all get together a bunch of questions and see if he's up for answering them. it's not everyday we have the chance to interview a member (albeit a former one) of our favorite band. we should get together some questions and email him, and if he feels like answering them, he will.
I'm interested to hear if he's listened to the rest of opeth's discography and what his thoughts are about it, what other music he's into, if he's recorded anything since morningrise, etc. it can't hurt to ask....if he wants all that behind him, he just has to say no thanks...

FYI: We are trying to put something together so if you have questions... put them here. PLEASE DON'T EMAIL HIM. Doing so will only ruin our chances of getting a response, not to mention the other negative aspects of that as mentioned in my earlier post. I believe you all will have a much better chance of getting answers in a single, concise set of questions.

Don't wait to post your questions since we want to do this right away and leave him alone. Please be considerate.

I'd finally like to know about that Arvidson bass he used for Morningrise, I've never been able to find any info about it!

I'd like to know what his influences were at the time of recording those albums, and now if he is still into music.

And also if he's ever checked out any other metal stuff. Not being a fan, probably not, but I wonder if he has ever heard ofother bass players incorporating jazz fusion into metal (Sean Malone anyone? :D)

Did he think Opeth were special at the time? What does he think about his own role in the band? Does he feel like with those albums he made a contribution to Opeth, or to music in general?

Any fun stories from their gigging days (I remember Lee posting some cool stories, hehe)

Did he ever see those live bootlegs from the UK?

I'll think of more, but now I really should start studying for my exam!!! Tomorrow ai ai ai it is 2 AM here!

Just to let you guys know, i've been advocating emailing him anyway because sooner or later someone else will, and with the help of Samsara am going to try and make this happen! I emailed him and will keep you guys up to date of any developments :)
