what is an impulse?!?!?

hey I was checking out some mixes on the rate my mix page and there are talking about impulse's on a head?!?!?! what are you guys talking about. I know about the impluse reverbs out there form waves and such. any info would be cool

Same thing but instead of mimicing a room, it just creates a damned detailed and damned realistic representation of the sound passing through the guitar cab/mic.
