What is it? Does it exist?

No fucking cliches cuz you'll be shot down and chewed to pieces. Discuss...

I am not referring to the system (judicial that is). Justice used loosely as in everyday life

Justice is always relative, and the conflict between the US and Afghanistan exemplifies that. I'm sure the terrorists believed that the destruction and death of September 11th was justice for the past wrongdoings of the US. We, of course, did not see any justice in that. Instead, we see justice in bombing Afghanistan as a form of retaliation against this great injustice that we have suffered.

If it was cliche, proceed at will with the shooting down and the chewing up and what not.

Justice in everyday life is an individual thing. Each person defines his/her "justice". Therefore - justice exists everywhere - you just may not like it if it's not your justice.

damn i was hoping for a funny joke

:) Its impossible to define what is right/wrong, which justice is based upon. Therefore justice itself is impossible.

justice does not exist, there is retribution and retalliation, but that is not justice, who can decide what is just or fair, nothing in life is fair...

Justice is the justification of avenging wrong acts performed unto someone, or even, in most cases, if the said act was NOT wrong or even by the person being judged.

Justice is revenge that has been subjectively interpreted to be morally acceptable.

Wise words Hoser. Particularly appropriate in the current circumstances.

How about Justice is a decision in your favor.

Strictly speaking there's no justice, just agendas... and justifications for those agendas.

I can't think of a bulletproof definiton, all I know is that the 'jus naturale' is open to bribery and tends to act opportunistically.

With that said, I would say justice exists but only on a personal level.

justice is what the boss says. be it the monarch, the dictator, the judge or the majority in democracy... justice is an opinion which is legitimated because the one who brings it up is either powerful for himself or has a lot of beople behind him who think the same way. there is no true justice as no living being is "troo" in all it's decisions. that's one reason why religion was invented, btw.

Are you saying religion was invented because no living being is true in all its decisions?

If a decision could be untrue, then to whom is it a lie? Surely not to the owner of that decision! Can a person, even if they call themselves a liar, be other than their own self? Impossible.
