I discovered Opeth the day after Blackwater Park came out. Before that, I listened primarily to bands like 311, Incubus, Deftones, and the like. The first song of Opeth I ever heard was The Leper Affinity. The song grabbed my by the throat and swung me around the whole 10 minutes. After that, I immediately bought Blackwater Park, then Still Life, working my way back to Morningrise. I have yet to check into Orchid. After this, hearing what a musical genius (IMO) Mikeal Ackerfeldt was, it got me interested in the limits of human ability in music. My listening turned more and more progressive, until finally, I found a band that had the best of what's around. Dream Theater. My favorite band for almost a year now. Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci, John Myung, and Jordan Rudess. Not the heaviest stuff, but it keeps me busy on drums becuase of the odd-time parameters and signiatures. Other bands I like lately are Tool, System of a Down, Rush, and In Flames. I still really like 311, Incubus, and the Deftones. What are your other favorite bands?
good band, awesome live though, about 5 times better live i'd say. and Underule too at that.
