Yes - Close To The Edge (SW Remix)

What did you think? I listened to the mix both on stereo and through headphones and enjoyed it. I can see the criticism of some that the new mix is dry and lifeless. I believe that they get that impression because the mix is too clear. I equate it to a high definition tv I recently bought. The picture on it is so clear that some of the movies that I watch look, for want of a better word, look fake.

In any event, you can hear each instrument clearly, the background vocals are more prominent. I'm glad I purchased.

1) Terje was in a humorous mood in 1989. There's nothing remotely hit-like about any of the tracks. And it's not a compilation of previous releases either... :loco:

2) I enjoyed the CTTE remix, as well. It is extremely faithful to the original mix but the individual instruments are clearer. That cleanup also results in slightly less midrange vs. the 2003 Bill Inglot remaster which makes it sound a little more dry. Squire's bass especially cleaned up very nicely. My 2 cents :)

I liked it. It started off OK then got better in the middle and towards the end. Sonically speaking, they sound a lot like the John Arch version of Fates Warning from the mid-eighties (think Awaken The Guardian).

Pretty good comparison, Leyth....and I agree, it does sound like Awaken the Guardian.
In my opinion, they have some VERY good ideas and melodies (singer's great). My only beef with the album is that I find their timing off a little bit. Sometimes they try to do too much and they're not synchronized, in terms of their timing together.
Pretty good album, though.
