What the **** is wrong with people?

I want to protest against people who believe absolutely everything (anything) that they read on wikipedia as absolute truth. The person who posted that info posted based upon one news story and ignored all of the others.

Look at the linked sources, dude. I heard DAYS ago on the news that it was misreported.

Also, it's a mistake to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I've usually researched the subject and I'm usually not wrong.
The guy found a starving stray dog AND FED IT and made up a fake story to hopefully increase your awareness on starving stray animals.

You are what you read.

And in this case, you are what you write.

Whatever, I may come off as a jerk but when people decide they want to ignore the facts and proceed to believe (and act on) false information it pretty much pisses me off more than anything else.

For the most part people completely ignore stray animals and he created a situation that forced you to pay attention to it and do exactly what you're doing now.

I think one thing you may be missing is that people are reacting to, whether true or hoax, the idea of an animal being abused/killed/tortured for the sake of art or publicity.

The legitimacy of the story can certainly be debated and proven, no doubt. But for many, myself included, it's the concept alone that is troubling.

Sure they are but OP was calling for this artist to be banned from attending an event.

The concept troubles me too but look at the thread...people hoping this guy should die, etc.

Either way, the whole thing really reeks of smelly brown stuff. Whether or not you believe it for what you think it is, or what it actually may be - this is just not right. Whether or not he was trying to use the dog as an example (and not actually abusing the dog), I still don't understand it completely. :erk: Maybe he was trying to convey a message, but the message was "lost in translation".

I dunno...when you look at the situation and title of the exhibit, it's pretty plain. To me at least.

One thing is evident from this thread, and again I mean no offense, but incline to point out that there has been a lot of jumping to conclusions, and rash responses.

If someone told me that the practice of eating domesticated animals such as dogs was still something going on there, it wouldn't surprise me.

I agree with you and everyone else 100% that this is sick and cruel. I just fail to understand how someone can let an animal, especially a mammal, slowly starve to death. However, you did hit on an important point about cultures being different, and to add something to your statement above, it's not just "third-world" countries and the like that have customs very different from ours. In Sweden, they eat horse meat! :Puke: It is (misleadingly IMO) called hamburgerkött (kött = meat). I thought Urban was pulling my leg.

But you are right... slaughtering an animal for food and toruturing it to death are definitely two separate (but somewhat related) issues.

How is this different from eating other animals? Looking at it objectively, in either case, an animal is dying, and you're eating it.

Whenever faced with an outrageous story like this, I generally consult snopes.com. Here's what they had to say:

Americans can be very nearsighted when it comes to some practices of other countries, especially when they lean more towards being third world. Not everyone shares our views on animals, sadly. I'm not condoning these practices, just reiterating what has already been stated - different countries, different cultures.

I will go past my metal influences and straight into my Alabama born and raised self with this "artist" and go "redneck" on him if I ever seen him face to face. I have five dogs, two cats and a cockatiel. Abusing an animal has absolutely NO artistic quality to it at all. I am not a violent person, but I would simply beat the guy fucking silly if I could. Things like this bother me (though I didn't watch the video.) THe parents of this "artist" should really evaluate themselves as well.
In this day and time there are too many examples of this type of mentality. There seems to be sooo many people that have no regard for the welfare of others, nor animals, their environment etc. It is ashamed that I have to raise a child in the social environment there is out there today. That is one of the reasons I chose to move out into the country where I am today.

I think what bothers me most - after reading all the threads - is that someone made it an exhibit... If the artist was 'bothered' by the condition of the dog, set up some info for prevention or just how many animals are affected by such a 'state'...

Bringing it into an art exhibit for the sole purpose of gawking and making some money and doing nothing else about it is what makes me want to verbally abuse several of those involved (the artist and those that okay'd it)...

Third world countries or not - this is unacceptable... Unnecessary dying shouldn't be on display...
