I never liked it when I was younger. Really only listened to death & thrash in the 90's. I got into black metal around 2006, so I was 26. It's been my favorite genre the last few years easily.
I first listened to some DSBM when I was around 11. I found Xasthur and Abyssic Hate, and I thought it was fucking insane. I didn't become my favorite genre until a couple years later. (Black Metal as a whole, not DSBM)
Yo dawg no one believes you were 11 and listening to xasthur. You were listening to pop music on the radio like every other 11 year old.
I started listening to extreme metal through lime wire when I was 16-17. I'm going to have to say mid period behemoth was the closest thing to black metal I had heard at that point. I'm sure there was others but that's the only one that comes to mind.
Was 14, got tired of radio stuff and at this time I thought the Offsprings were gods. At this time, I was on forums as well, and someone told me to listen to Black Metal Radio. I did and Enslaved was on, and was hooked from then on.
Still love Enslaved, and BM is my favorite genre in extreme metal.

I wasn't listening to it on a regular basis, I had just found it then from some mindless internet searching (I found a site that had all the genres of metal, and it had some subgenres of Black Metal). It wasn't until the last couple years where I really started to listen to Black Metal.
I was listening to stuff like Metallica, COB, and Linkin Park around the ages of 11-12. I have brothers 14 and 10 years older than me who exposed me to some different stuff. The one who's 10 years older likes lots of Progressive Metal (Ayreon, Symphony X), older stuff (Priest, Maiden), and some of the more well known extreme metal bands (Amon Amarth, etc.). I got kind of a jump start from listening to some of his stuff.
I've liked rock and metal since I was going to sporting events as a little kid. Watching your favorite baseball team come on to the field while the PA plays Enter Sandman can have an affect on a kid.
