Hmm I think I'll chime in on this debate. In my humble opinion, NeChrist owns all, but in this case, I will have to say that Goat Horns wins by a tiny sliver. But indeed, if ToV is a good taste of Weltanschauung, than it is going to be fucking legendary.

Clearly they had not found their style on the Twilightfall demo yet, you can hear doom/thrash/death/black/folk/heavy metal on it. Doesnt sound like NM at all, but it is quite great really.

I've only heard Lunar Poetry and Goat Horns. I prefer the former by a mile, as I was put off by the goofy sounding keys and relatively weak guitar sound on Goat Horns. Yes, I know I'm a traitor and that I deserve to be kneed in the crotch etc
I'll give you this - I do agree that "To the Gates..." should go last. That holds my interest the least for some reason.Marksveld said:

Absolutely! I just can't sit through "To the Gates...", and its not because of the brutality, its just not my style. I completely agree about the "natural" sound. Goat Horns has a killer atmoshpere, yes, but what it lacks is the totally fucking perfect ending of "In the Fires of Wooden Churches". Seriously, right from when the female vocals start to the end of the song is pure brilliance.
On the note of a "weak" sounding guitar in Goat Horns - That is my only pick with the album, the guitar is very low in the mix, and if I'm not mistaken, there's only one guitar, or they put both in mono. Regardless, outstanding stuff.

I think the 88 tracks on NeChrist was a cheesy gimmick, but whatever. I can't begin to rate the NM albums. They're all unique in their own way.

I checked out the THR website today and saw that they just got the goathorns album in stock. And while the album is old news some of the info in the text describing it was interesting: "Debut CD of Nokturnal Mortum, now finally re-issued on ORIANA (Varggoth of N.M's own label), with great new layout! This is one of the strongest materials with N.M, the band has now signed a record deal with No Colours Records, so expect the upcoming album to be available there soon. Yes, it will be Weltanshauung... and now that you mention it, I should probably pick up Goat Horns on Vinyl. Lunar Poetry too....
