where do u find out about ur music

Well I've found quite a few bands that I like from hearing other people's reccomendations on this forum. Some people can just download everything they want to hear but I have a slow connection so I don't even bother, which severely limits my choices. Actually, I'm lucky to have a cd shop that sells nothing but metal in my area so occasionally I find some hard-to-find cd that I really want.

I find this forum to be a very good source for finding new bands. I also have an all metal music store pretty close by, but I'd prefer not to rely on guesswork. I have a few friends who are also into metal, and I'll occasionally download a song or two, but I don't download albums unless it's something rare or oop like Atheist.

Yea, seriously, where the fuck do these bands come from? I listen to a bunch of these obscure bands, and just wonder where the fuck they came from.

for example
my favorite bands
Ikileder
Oteredo
Jubvupfer
Xastifer

I strated out with Amazon.com, not a bad place.

UM helps, as do the M-A at times.

Word-of-mouth.

Guesswork and spontaneous purchases or downloads.

Record label websites.

this forum (and a few others)
a few magazines
online zines
browsing peoples' lists on mirc and just randomly downloading
amazon

shit like that

I go to M-A and just click on random Death/Black bands or search past Death/Black topics made here. Most of the "obsure" bands I have cd's of I make a blind purchase.

Cross-referencing Soulseek/Amazon/Yahoo, looking up every band that I see mentioned. So actually, my new discoveries usually come from bands whose name I like. That's how I got into Bodies In The Gears, Curl Up And Die, of course the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (they're fuckin brilliant), and a lot of my favorite bands.

Recommendations on this forum, as well on the Metal Archives forum, are how I get into a lot of bands. Also, when someone is sharing a band that I have never heard of on Soulseek, I often look the band up in the Metal Archives, and if it seems like something I would like, I download it.
