Who has the most crappy computer???

this is maybe somewhat off-topic but:
when I maximize (is it called that?) my explorer windows the size is correct but the whole window is moved to the right. that is, I see a bit (1,5 inch, maybe) of windows in the background to the left and the explorer window is cut at the right. it looks as if I´ve dragged it there but I haven´t, and there´s no way to drag it back as far as I can see.

anyone has any clue what might be the problem? or, rather the solution...

Well, this is quite late, but anyways...
You can try double clicking on the title bar, it will either maximize or minimize
the window, that usually does the trick, if that doesn't help, you can try to
right click on the taskbar (on win2k/xp) and select tile windows
horizontally/vertically, this should organize all your windows depending on how
you chose.

I gotta start listening to some DT.... considering the music I like, theres really no reason why I wouldn't like them at all. Ive got a ton on my computer, i just havent really listened to it yet. So maybe I'll become a fan pretty soon.

Oh, I should be getting my laptop soon, my company said week 7 or 8, it's
so new it hasn't even been released yet hahaha
Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook E4010 is what it will be.

forget about linux, since it has centrino stuff.

Nah, creates no problems, check here for success stories.
Actually I might still go with FreeBSD too, not sure yet, FreeBSD or
Slackware.

well, good luck :)
you might also try gentoo, if you really want to get your hands dirty. i think i'll try that sooner or later.

Yeah, I have a whole bunch of Gentoo stuff printer, manuals and such,
but I am not sure if I wanna go thru all that compiling and such.
Slack should work better right out of the box, if you are no scared of the
text based install, which I am not having done such before.

well i tried the debian text install which was way over my head (back then).
the fine thing with gentoo though is that once you've installed it, you can keep it up to date similar to debian's apt-get. i just started downloading the isos; there are precompiled packages as well, so you don't really need to compile it all by yourself unless you are the total geek. i can bear this 0.05% of performance loss i guess.
well, i'll give you a detailled report when it's up and running (or not). ;)

@VC
Yep, I have downloaded the Gentoo 1.4 (I think) CDs too, but I wanna do it the
hard way, since it's kinda the same as in FreeBSD. Who knows, I might go with
Gentoo as well, mainly cos it's up to date, more than Slack anyway ;)
Of course my laptop will be a testing ground for a while anyway, so I might as well
check Gentoo out, I have printed enough documents about it at least, about 1000
pages or so hahah

Well, we'll see what happens.

My computer...
...has begun to switch itself off every now and then.
...reboots itself whenever I try to load mp3s onto my mp3 player.
...hates me with a passion.
It sucks.
Either that, or I'm not very technical...

@Northern: Oh, I had that too :err: when I first got this computer. (well "got" ..sharing it :'()

Anyway, my diagnosis will be (yet again!) Your computer is suicidal
Its depressed
HELP IT!
Take it out of its misery/Give it drugs/Cheer it up/Find a friiiieeend for it
That should probably help

why don't you people just use a precompiled distribution? l33t h4x0rz..

Cos that adds too much garbage that you never use anyway,
I hate wasting space for stuff like that. Which is why I always
use LitePC for the Windows installs, remove all the crap like IE and so on.

My sophisticated l33t h4x0rz (yeah right) solution to this problem is: Put your computer on a big field far from people. Put a fair amount of dynamite under it. A few kilos will be enough. Give it a tender farewell-hug. Light the fuse on the dynamite and run like the hells gates had opened behind you. Throw yourself down on the ground and plug your ears. Say to the insurance company that it self ignited when you had taken it out on the field to wash it. Buy a new computer.
