Ha! That might be true, but I'd say Bathory took the influence further while Venom kind of stagnated. But if we were talking about who influenced the influencers instead of how MUCH influence they had and how widespread it was, it'd def. be Venom and it would be nearly a fact.

yeah, but who influenced venom? cuz they would be the founders of black metal by that logic

I absolutely agree with you. I just wanted to razz Susperia a bit more. :p

It was tough between Bathory and Celtic Frost. I'm gonna have to go with Bathory, though. Besides the obviously huge contribution to black metal, they also influenced shitloads of bands now in the "Viking Metal" genre. Without Bathory all of this would be completely and totally different.

I actually believe Quorthon when he claimed not to have heard Venom by the time that he recorded the first LP, and I honestly don't really hear much Venom musically (I hear much more GBH, The Exploited, and Motorhead), but by the second LP THERE'S NO FUCKING QUESTION. Especially since Born For Burning is practically a carbon copy of Don't Burn The Witch.

bathory was as george described, and when black metal was being forged, no one knew who or what bathory was. just coz sweden is a hot spot for metal now a days, and they were always into bathory, doesnt mean the rest of the world gave a shit. maybe looking back, they perfected the genre, but they were most certainly NOT an influence by any means.
