Who were the first Swedish Death Metal bands?

nihilist who later changed their name to entombed released their first demo in 1988, so i guess they should be be mentioned among the first ones
It's always hard to pinpoint the actual time of birth of bands who become famous later on. But as far as I know both, Nihilist and Grave were founded in 1987. Nihilist were quite influental as they were the nucleus from which Entombed, Unleashed and Dismember developed. There's also a cross connection to Carnage (founded in 88), a band with a certain Mr. Amott handling the guitars. Grave were unaffected by this member-sharing as they were located on the island Gotland (or so).
Even before all this there was another band called Morbid. Members were (among others) guitarist Uffe Cederlund and drummer(!!!) L-G Petrov (both moved on to be in Nihilist & Entombed) and Dead who would later found Mayhem. That's the reason why that so-called Black Metal circle voiced death threats against Entombed in the early 90s. They felt like Entombed had betrayed their roots or something. I never cared much about that idiocy...

Dead didn't found Mayhem, he became a member 2-3 years after they formed. Johnny Hedlund from Nihilist formed Unleashed I think. David Blomqvist played for a qhile in Nihilist or Entombed and later in Dismember. i think the guys who started Dismember never played in Nihilist though.

uhh forgive my lack of Swedish DM knowledge but uhh when did Hypocrisy come along? heh

Did hypocrisy get started around 85? I have a demo tape of there's since 82, 83

But are they swedish? I though they were from finland.

Ugh..do you mean they released something before they were formed?!?! :)

I don't know which hypocrisy you are talking about but the one I know was formed by Peter Tägtgren around 1990 and are from Sweden.

Yeah, absolutely correct. I believe, the other Nihilist-guys din't get along with him well enough to recruit him for Entombed or something.

Well, isn't one guy enough to establish a connection? Besides, it was actually Entombed's drummer Nicke Andersson who layed down all of the guitar solos for the Dismember debut.

Carnage's Dark Recollections is a pretty good album, although if it wasn't for Mike AMott being in the band nobody would probably have ever heard of them. But still, it's worth checking out.
