I guess I'm at a minority here in thinking that Opeth's cover was actually pretty bad. Moreover, I think Metallica's is a good cover. Metallica's always been an awesome cover band in my opinion and this is no exception.
Whose cover did you like more of Remember Tomorrow?

OK, so let me preface this by saying that Remember Tomorrow is one of my all time favorite Maiden Songs. I loved the Opeth cover, and thought Mike's voice sounded great. Now for Metallica: what the fuck was that intro? and did Lars mix this? because there was WAY too much drums in that mix. and am I the only one who thought the rhythm guitar tone sounded terrible? Don't get me wrong I love Metallica, wait lovED Metallica, And Justice was a masterpiece, then the black album, which is overrated, but still decent, then the whole Load/Reload shit that had a few good moments, but overall sucked. then they redeemed themselves with S&M and, although the song selection was a bit iffy, Garage Inc. did have some really good covers in it. But since then it seems that Metallica is fully intent upon alienating it's entire fanbase by releasing one steaming pile of shit after the next. The only redeeming thing they've released in the past 10 years was the Ecstasy of Gold cover, which if you think about is kinda sad.

Opeth's one, or course. Just heard Metallica's cover and... man, it's bad. James' voice doesn't sound like... you know, like Hetfield! And that stupid intro ripped off "Creeping Death". Absolutely bad.
Opeth's one is not great, but very good. I wonder who sang that high note in the end? Maybe Swano?

Well... LOL. Lars has never been a very high-class drummer in my eyes. I really liked his work on ...And Justice for All and the Loads, but he actually has never made %20 the impression that drummers like Martin Lopez, Mike Groger or that super-drummer who toured with Opeth before Axe joined (I forgot his name, sorry).
Lars's drumming has always been very formulaic and always more often that not lacking the feel and drumfills that make a drummer really stand out.
Unfortunately this cover is no exception but I really hope Rick Rubin got him to practice more and become more inspired for this next record, which I'm really looking forward to!
I know that, but the only thing only a couple of years or so seperated between both debuts, so thats how it was IN MY MIND, which is why it was odd for me.

What's with all this hate for Lars? I'm not a huge Metallica fanboy or anything, but he is a solid drummer and, as most of you know, was and is one of the main arrangers of Metallica's music. During their best years, I would say Ulrich's drumming fit very well with the music. I guess my point is, I don't think he's THAT bad, and certainly not bad enough to warrant such animosity....:shrug:

Now he even can't play double bass parts in "One" and "The Four Horsemen".
If you heard Metallica playing "Creeping Death" with Joey Jordison you can't no longer think about Lars without laughter.

Ah well, the only thing that really bugs me about Lars' drumming is the live performances where he slows down almost every song, depending on his shape and mood i guess...
BTW. that performance of creeping death with joey wasn't very good IMO, because he overused his double bassing so much in some parts, that it killed the whole feel of the song. Battery with Dave Lombardo on the other hand was very intense (more thrashy song anyway), except for this one part, where the whole band stops and he plays on as if it was the album version

Metallica's cover sounds really sloppy and unprofessional and that's the way I see the band today.
While Mike's vocals are miles above James', and the musical performance is way better on the Opeth cover, the original is still very much better than both of the versions.

BTW, I think it's totally pathetic that an Opeth's cover of an IM song wasn't included on the album!

Which album? "Maiden Heaven"? What's the reason for including it? Cover was recorded ten years ago and all "Maiden Heaven" covers are brand new. But it would be cool if Opeth recorded something for "Maiden Heaven". Dunno... maybe "Sign of the Cross" or "Lord of the Flies". Something dark.

Are you kdding or something? Maybe "Strange World", yeah, but what else? Crazy punky songs like "Charlotte the Harlot" ot "Murders in the Rue Morgue"? Pre-Dickinson era is too punky, too happy and sounds like bar music. Except the greatest "Phantom of the Opera", of course. Anyway, Paul DiAnno is a cunt.
