Will Martin Lopez be on this tour?

The only issue any of you have with him is that it's not Lopez. and you're all looking for reasons to justify it beyond that. But the thruth is he's an awesome drummer who's tried really hard and has pulled off everything that he's been asked to do with panache and proffessionalism. Respect to the lot of you, your desire to see the band as it's meant to be shows that you're all true fans of the band. But give the man the credit he deserves. I'd love to see the band as it's meant to be and i'm sure if it was the other way round Bloodbath's fans would be like "We want Axe back!!" and so they should want him back. The fact is Lopez is an amazing drummer, Axenrot's ability on the sticks is just as good or so close the differences are negiligible, but Lopez is part of Opeth Axenrot isn't. I'd love Axe to stay in Opeth as long as they need him, but until he becomes and official memeber and pens a song with Opeth that is written for him not Lopez, he'll never really be a member. He's an awesome fill in member but "fill in" is the operative word.

^^^I've said on several occasions that I don't think Axe gets enough respect. I respect him immensely. But his style of drumming isn't right for Opeth on a full-time basis. It's not subtle enough. Great drummer....just not right. The new drummer (if there ever is one) doesn't have to be exactly like Lopez, but they need to have a panache and subtlety to fit the music. Axe's style is much better suited to bands like Bloodbath. That's just not what Opeth is.

I'm pretty sure he could adapt. However i doubt he'd leave Bloodbath to go to Opeth. And i really don't think it's fair to specualte over a new drummer. If Lopez recovers there might be or opeth might simply fold. Or most likely he'll pull through and all will be well. But as someone said before until the most important thing is not whether or not he'll stay in the band.

I'm not bitching! Axenrot is fucking awesome IMO. I'm just stating my opinion that, were Opeth in need of a new full-time drummer, I think there's probably a better candidate for the job. I never said I didn't like or respect Axe. Is that a crime?

shit, I know *I* couldn't play with Opeth and nail the shit Axe does. That said, there are MUCH better drummers out there - and by better I mean more suited to Opeth's music.

But I really would love an update from the Opeth camp on Lopez.

ps - Axe, STOP PLAYING "WHEN" SO DAMN SLOW

I have to admit, I kinda like the slower tempo Axe plays it at. My quibbles are kinda different. I don't mind if he plays stuff a little slower. What I do mind is when he tries to do things he can't quite manage. For example, when I saw them, he tried to double bass right the way through the ending of Closure. He played it exactly as Lopez did on Lamentations, but with double-bass. And he couldn't quite keep up with his own pace. It seemed a little dumb. Gotta admit though, it sounded fuckin' sweet as long as it worked :)

Yeah, I saw them in 2004 with Hoglan and the Sounds of the Underground with Hoglan. In 2004 they played a few Damnation songs with the drum tech then Hoglan came out for two heavy numbers.

They said when rehearsing at soundcheck Gene nailed The Drapery Falls in one take and took two takes to get Demon of the Fall. He learned them the day of the show too as he was called the night before, they even had to go buy a copy of My Arms, Your Hearse for him from a local metal store because they didn't have a copy on the bus

Imagine that; a band walking into a record store to buy one of their own albums :tickled:

LOpez please come back.

NO disrespect to Axe, i think he's great (judging from the few live songs i have with him playing the drums).

But no Lopez= no Opeth.... he's just a very important part of this band... i don't know... it just wouldn't fit watcihing someone else behind the drums as the official member.... that place is just for Lopez

the same goes for any other opeth member, opeth is akerfeldt, mendez, lopez, lindgren and wiberg... no other name would fit that sentence!!!!!!

Thank you!

I don't really agree with the 'people are just bitching' assessment. I have seen Opeth 4 times, 3 times with Lopez and 1 without. There was a distinct difference without him. Axe is good, sure, but he doesn't hit all the drum fills plus his cymbal work isn't as good (he pretty much skipped entire sections of cymbal work that Lopez plays). It affects the overall sound in a way that I do not care for. Lopez has that certain feel. Plus, I don't like it when he slows down and makes everything sound like My Dying Bride (ok, granted it's not that slow but you get the point).

This is probably the most asked question at present. There has been a lot of speculation on the "Lopez situation" but nothing in concrete from the band. This is my petition for an update for all eager fans who simply love such an excellent drummer and wanna know if he's ok. \m/
Thanksssssssssssss:wave:
