working full time is drainging my soul

FWIW, I find it's a lot more bearable when a) you can start at 9 instead of 8 (and/or you have a really short commute), and b) the job doesn't blow! And on that note, where do you work dude?

I want to ask for part time. it's about a 30 min drive.

I work at a retirement facility doing inventory for all the med rooms and such on campus. I also do misc electronics work, all the broken shit comes to me.

My boss is the biggest dweeb i have ever met, one reason why I hate it.

Did you ever get my message?

Projectionist,

shifts anywhere between 9am and 1am the next morning.

Today is my day off and i've been called in to cover the night shift. I'd kill twice for a regular 9-5 job.
By an HD camcorder and earn some extra income then. ;)
I work between 50-75% and it works out good. Got enough cash to rock out, and enough free time to actually do the rocking.
Are you still in school or is your full-time work actually part-time (if that makes sense :Spin:). What do you do then?

I'm not in school no, and I work at a McDonalds as a area supervisor. I mean that I work between 50% (80 hours a month) and 75% (120h) as opposed to the 160 hours of full time.

I'd rather have a job than not and having a job allows me to do the things I enjoy. Is the need to work a bit of a drag - sure, but better to work 40 hours a week than to be thinking about where I'm gonna live or what I'm going to eat or how I'm going to pay for it those 40 hours.

As always your mileage may vary.

im unemployed at the moment also. I got laid off at a factory i was working at grinding metal springs (and almost was killed there 3 times!) Social services is helping me with my rent, but i dont have a single dollar to do anything. Not working sucks, but working also sucks. hmmmmmmmmm

Flexitime ftw! It is a lifesaver.

Hmm well, I am drunk enough to tell a story.

When I started my "career" at injection molding in 2007, I did way over 50h per week and enjoyed it. It actually started boring pretty fast, but luckily I got myself to other additional assignments. I got to do video measuring and eventually purchasing. At the side I started to arrange shipping shit locally/worldwide and do some electrical repairs when I had the time. When they started to lay off people at work there was suddenly a shitload of things that needed to be done, like IT support which I started handling also.

I have to say that most motivating thing is that you have new stuff coming all the time at work. Maybe not every day, but you get to learn new things every now and then.

Nowadays I'm a manager for the whole injection molding department and still do the other duties on the side. I get stressed often, but not bored :D. I think it is also good to stay cool in stressful situations, because of yourself and especially because the workers. I keep telling myself "you don't have much work to do, you can handle this" and it fucking works! I think bad motivation and attitude can spread pretty fast but positive attitude can do the same thing!. Nowadays I am fortunate to not have to do crazy hours daily anymore, but it is difficult to take a day off. Most of my work is done through email so I tend to do it also at home after real working hours, which is actually not recommended because who knows what the real hours are then.

My experiences for those interning at a job:
We have had many interns during the last 4 years that I have been at this same factory. Most of them just do their job and nothing else. This is not the way to get the job! You got to be interested on things and always ask is there some other duties you can do. There is always use for a guy who can do multiple things. If you stop learning things, then you stop progressing at your career.

At the end I would still like to say that I am very grateful to have a job! I have been unemployed somewhere in the past for about a year total, and at that time I didn't get anything done except drinking 3 days a week :D I have a shitload more energy now, and despite the lesser free time hours, I get more shit done.

When you've worked 17 years on an assembly line, then you can complain. Until then, shut the fuck up, you whiny little bitch!

:tickled::lol::dopey:

(don't take that seriously.)

very true.

Good friends of mine work 10 hour days at a mill throwing wood through a machine...allllll day. That shit would suck..

I'd kill for a 9-5 job.
