Artistically speaking, there is no good or bad song. When criticizing, it's only to state how catchy it is, so how sellable it is. When it's about skills, experience, sound quality: then it's technical.

@krigsbarn: the polls you're referring to are to be considered of the "which song do you like the least" kind, regardless of the intended (or not) objectivity of the opinions expressed along with the vote. now i hope for your mental health and that of the people around you that you do have opinions about what you like/not like in the world. ;)
so i guess artistically speaking this poll is a moot point. your use of n00b is also quite n00b-like. :)

I agree with you but my statement is "what's the point"... Of course it's just opinions, so what the hell we're here to have fun lightly. i'm all to agree with that, but this kind of poll is like... everywhere in every forum and always showing up for every band. If it was just about opinions, it wouldn't be so popular, what you're saying is right but we both wish it was really about that.

It wouldn't be that popular if it was just to get posts like "At Loss for... i just really cant get into the song...." Ok, it's cool but then when people are bored to say "I'm not into it" or unable to analyse their music tastes...

And also, it is asked to "EXPLAIN WHY". What diversity in the post do you expect then? "I'm not kin on it/ I don't like it/ I can't dance on it / I don't get the groove on it..." but no:

In fact, most comments are like "I voted for Ego Drama... I think it's the weakest song on the album..." "Dobermann. It just doesn't fit on Projector." "I think it's just a bit too linear and doesen't have as strong a melody as the other songs" "it's not on the official album, so it must not be that good."

So I totally agree with you, but in the end reality doesn't agree with us.
Likes or dislikes OK, but who buys it? and when they explain it's always the same thing... from the most confusing critics to the most idiotic ones ("not metal enough"). And anyway, beside posting in those polls, do you really read what other people post ? The only reactions would be "wtf, why the heck did you vote for that song ??"

Hey, I will not have you tell me that the caterpillar is less beneficent than an assenting fish, and quite obviously to anyone but the most inane of volunteers it should be fairly obvious that a mastodon is quite obviously much more craven than some highhanded oriole, obviously, to anyone but the most inane of paleontologists: fiendisly derivative yet superb in all its stupendous splendour (grandeur) it is certifiable to the fullest extent of the law that the obviously certifiably insane derelict romantically heralded the arrival of the greasy honeydew melon -- this should be obvious to all but the most benificient caterpillars among the hordes of obviously oblivious assenting fishes.

the reason why these polls are popular is - in my opinion - that they are closer to games and pastime than most serious messages and alot of the not-so-serious ones. you get online, you relax a bit and participate in a survey. ever took pleasure in doing those godawful tests online that tell you how gay / metal / disturbed / a walrus you are? that's more of the same stuff.

then again, reasons why you like something better than something else seem pretty acceptable to me: we all have some. of course what is subjective is their validity, as in: you think day to end is too linear for projector while i think it's as linear as it should be and thank you very much. the goal is not truth or consensus, but discussions can survive - and hold a margin of interest - even without both.

as for the rest, i sort of agree: very few people read (or care about) what the others post, very few people add original comments beyond the stale "i can't get into this song", very few people start a debate based on any ground about them. you're right. this is a shortcoming of most communities, one of the reasons why after their first 20 thousand posts of sheer spam and subjective opinions most people lose interest, take a break, realise another long-winded rant on the significance of their favourite band's lyrics is a drop into an ocean of repetitive, neverchanging messages.

but if you want a target to point the finger at, i'd say why not choose the "now eating" or "now playing" or "now wearing" threads, the birthday threads, the "i've just reached a gazillion posts" threads? they're even worse, and full of totally alienated users whose idea of a community is dropping by every month (but it could be every day) and enlighten us about their consumption of oranges or wishing a nice day to someone they haven't spent more than 15" getting to know.
polls are rather docile and tame, and their on-topicness makes them safe even for the most cynical spammer. ;)

Alright good point. But I'm not only seeing things thru the poster's view...
That's another subject
I mean; ok, having others' critics on my own songs is essential, but I started filtering most of them that were like "I don't like that song, oh it's an intro?" "It sucks because it could be like that ... you know, Emperor did it that way, why not you?"

In other words, 90% of the comments are worthless... that's why for my own mental health and mood I'd rather ask personally to people who'd know what they are talking about.

The gay test involves only you and your will to make fun of yourself with that stupid test. Entertainment is completely free; so you guys have the right to type as much bullshit as you want since it's not forbidden here (many many things aren't forbidden in this world...) So I guess I come to the conclusion: shut my self up about it.

lol ok

i maintain that the skills to engage someone in meaningful conversation are not that widespread in the world... definitely, most opinions are - in my view - rather inane. still showing surprise about it or wishing them away sounds to me a bit like standing amazed when you find out your daughter lost her virginity on prom night.
i mean... yeees.

So I guess I come to the conclusion: shut my self up about it.

well you've argued your point in an interesting and civilized way, and we don't have just the basher or the bashed around here. there's other roles. see, i play the dwarf. :Spin:

"I can't get into this thread."
We already have the survivor. There's no songs with female name from DT, unless you mean Melancholy. I mean, wtf, you complain that people don't know why they bash songs, and you want to find out, without even knowing what kind of songs we're talking about? Honestly, i hate all DT songs because they can't reach Britney's brilliance and breast implants. And i don't even know why i'm even replying here or what the hell i'm talking about.

lol, I'm not a pornstar thanks...

and anyway, it's not even surprising how we need to remind that the poll content is sarcastic. Also, I didn't say they don't know why they bash songs, they just don't know what they are talking about, even when they say "this song is better than that one"

And don't start the "outsider" thing on me, I believe I know DT for longer time than most people in this mainly american forum... and that's not even a way for me to feel special; so don't try so
