i agree that the system is fucked and needs reform, however, can anybody name one thing that's government-run (in america) that is cheaper, better, and more efficient than the private version (as they claim this will be)?

The problem for the U.S. the time it actually happens fully is to reconstruct the system. It's not exactly a 5-10 million people country like Sweden, Norway or other countries that has done this change. So progressing slow might be the best option to make sure it doesn't go wrong, if there is such a thing in politics.
